1 “한나는 이렇게 기도하였다. “여호와께서 내 마음을 기쁨으로 채우셨습니다. 여호와께서 나를 축복하시고 높여 주셨으므로 내가 원수들에게 뽐낼 수 있게 되었습니다. 주께서 나를 구해 주셨으니 나는 정말 기쁩니다.”(Hannah prayed: “Jehovah has filled my heart with joy. Jehovah has blessed me and exalted me, so that I can boast before my enemies. I'm so glad you saved me)
‭‭2 “여호와처럼 거룩하신 이는 아무도 없습니다. 주밖에는 다른 신이 없고, 우리 하나님 같은 보호자도 없습니다.”(No one is as holy as Jehovah. There is no other god but the Lord, no protector like our God)
‭‭3 ““교만한 자들아, 너무 잘난 체하지 말아라. 거만한 자들아, 너무 우쭐대지 말아라. 여호와는 모든 것을 다 아시는 하나님이시다. 그가 너희 행위를 판단하시리라.”(“You proud ones, don’t be too conceited. You arrogant ones, don't be too conceited. Jehovah is a God who knows everything. he will judge your deeds)
‭‭4 “용사의 활이 꺾이고 연약한 자가 강해졌구나.”(The mighty bow is broken, the weak are made strong)
‭‭5 “한때 배불리 먹던 자들은 이제 굶주리게 되었고, 지금까지 굶주리던 자들은 이제 주리지 않게 되었다. 자식을 낳지 못하던 자는 일곱을 낳았고 자녀를 많이 둔 자는 자식 없는 신세가 되었네.”(Those who once sat full are now starving, and those who were starving no longer starve. Those who were barren gave birth to seven, and those who had many children became childless)
‭‭6 “여호와는 죽이기도 하시고 살리기도 하시며, 사람을 저 세상에 보내기도 하시고 다시 돌아오게도 하신다.”(Yahweh kills and makes alive, sends people to the other world and brings them back)
‭‭7 “여호와는 가난하게도 하시고 부하게도 하시며, 낮추기도 하시고 높이기도 하신다.”(The Lord makes poor and makes rich, brings low and exalts)
‭‭8 “그는 가난한 자를 티끌 가운데서 일으키시고 잿더미 가운데서도 일으켜 그들을 귀족처럼 대우하시고 영광의 자리에 앉게 하시는구나. 땅의 기초는 여호와의 것이다. 여호와께서 세계를 그 위에 세우셨네.”(He raises the poor from the dust and from the ashes, treats them like nobles and places them in a seat of glory. The foundation of the earth is the Lord's. The Lord has built the world upon it)
‭‭9 ““여호와는 성도들의 발걸음을 지키실 것이나, 악인은 어둠 속에서 말없이 사라지게 하시리라. 사람이 자기 힘만으로는 승리하지 못하는 법.”(The Lord will guard the steps of the saints, but the wicked will disappear silently in darkness. How a man cannot win by himself)
‭‭10 “여호와를 대적하는 자는 산산이 깨어질 것이니 그가 하늘의 벼락으로 그들을 치시리라. 여호와는 온 세계를 심판하시고 자기가 택한 왕에게 힘을 주시며 기름 부어 세운 자에게 큰 영광을 주시리라.””(Those who oppose the LORD will be shattered, and he will strike them with thunderbolts from heaven. Jehovah will judge the whole earth, and he will give strength to the king he chooses, and great glory to those he anointed.”)
‭‭11 “그 후에 엘가나는 라마의 자기 집으로 돌아가고 어린 사무엘은 실로에 머물러 제사장 엘리 밑에서 여호와를 섬겼다.”(Then Elkanah returned to his house in Ramah, and the young Samuel stayed in Shiloh to serve the Lord under Eli the priest)
‭‭12 “엘리의 아들들은 불량배였다. 그들은 여호와를 두렵게 여기지 않았고”(Eli's sons were bullies. They did not fear the Lord)
‭‭13 “제사법에 관한 규정도 무시하였다. 사람들이 제사를 드리고 고기를 삶으면 그들은 하인을 보내 세 발 달린 쇠갈고리로”(The regulations on the sacrificial rites were also ignored. When the people make sacrifices and boil the meat, they send servants to cut them with three-legged iron hooks)
‭‭14 “고기 삶는 솥이나 냄비나 가마에 마구 찔러 넣어 갈고리에 걸려 나오는 것은 무엇이든지 가져오게 하였다. 그들은 실로에 제사 드리러 오는 모든 이스라엘 사람들에게 이런 무례한 짓을 하였다.”(It was stabbed into a meat-boiler, pot, or kiln, and whatever came out of the hook was brought. They did this disrespectfully to all the Israelites who came to sacrifice at Shiloh)
‭‭15 “이뿐 아니라 그 하인은 단에 제물의 기름을 태우기도 전에 와서 제사장은 삶은 고기를 원치 않는다고 하면서 제사장이 구워 먹을 날고기를 달라고 강요하였다.”(Not only this, but the servant came before the fat of the sacrifice had been burned on the altar, and the priest said that he did not want boiled meat and forced the priest to give him raw meat to roast)
‭‭16 “이때 만일 제사 드리는 사람이 “아직 기름을 단에 태우지도 않았는데 그럴 수는 없소. 기름을 태우고 나면 마음대로 가져가도록 하시오” 하면 그 하인은 “안 된다. 지금 당장 내놓아라. 그렇지 않으면 강제로 빼앗아 가겠다” 하고 으름장을 놓기가 일쑤였다.”(At this time, if the person offering the sacrifice says, “The oil has not yet been burned on the altar, that is not possible. After burning the oil, take it with you as you please,” the servant said, “No. Give it up right now. Otherwise, I will take it by force.”)
‭‭17 “엘리의 아들들이 짓는 이 죄가 여호와께서 보시기에 매우 컸던 것은 그들이 여호와께 드리는 백성들의 제사를 멸시하였기 때문이었다.”(This sin of the sons of Eli was very great in the sight of the Lord because they despised the sacrifices of the people to the Lord)
‭‭18 “사무엘은 아직 어렸지만 제사장처럼 고운 모시 에봇을 입고 여호와를 섬겼다.”(Samuel, still young, served Jehovah like a priest, wearing an ephod of fine linen)
‭‭19 “해마다 그의 어머니는 자기 남편과 함께 제사를 드리러 올 때 작은 겉옷을 만들어 가지고 와서 사무엘에게 입혀 주었다.”(Every year, when her husband and her husband came to offer sacrifices, his mother made a little mantle and put it on Samuel)
‭‭20 “그들이 집으로 돌아가기 전에 언제나 엘리는 엘가나와 한나에게 축복하고 그들이 여호와께 바친 이 아이를 대신할 다른 자녀를 그들에게 주도록 하나님께 기도하였다.”(Every time before they went home, Eli blessed Elkanah and Hannah and prayed to God to give them another child to replace the one they had dedicated to the Lord)
‭‭21 “그래서 여호와께서는 한나에게 복을 내리셔서 세 아들과 두 딸을 더 주셨으며 한편 사무엘도 여호와 앞에서 무럭무럭 자라고 있었다.”(So the Lord blessed Hannah and gave her three more sons and two daughters, while Samuel was growing up well before the Lord)
‭‭22 “이제 엘리는 나이가 많아 늙은 노인이 되었다. 그가 자기 주변에서 일어나는 모든 일과 자기 아들들이 성막 입구에서 일을 돕고 있는 젊은 여자들을 유혹하여 그들과 잠자리를 같이했다는 소문을 듣고”(Now Ellie is old and has become an old man. When he heard of all that was going on around him and that his sons had seduced young women who were helping at the entrance to the tabernacle, they had slept with them)
‭‭23 “자기 아들들을 불러 그들에게 말하였다. “너희가 어째서 이런 짓을 하였느냐? 나는 너희 악한 소행에 대해서 다 듣고 있다.”(He called his sons and told them. “Why did you do this? I've heard all about your evil deeds)
‭‭24 “내 아들들아, 너희가 이래서 되겠느냐? 내게 들리는 소문이 좋지 않다.”(My sons, can you be like this? The rumors I hear are not good)
‭‭25 “사람이 사람에게 범죄하면 하나님이 그를 위해 중재하시지만 사람이 여호와께 범죄하면 누가 그를 위해 중재하겠느냐?” 그러나 그들은 자기 아버지의 권면을 듣고도 그 말에 귀를 기울이지 않았다. 이것은 여호와께서 이미 그들을 죽이기로 작정하셨기 때문이었다.”(If a man sins against a man, God intercedes for him, but if a man sins against the Lord, who will intercede for him?” But even after hearing their father's counsel, they did not heed it. This was because Jehovah had already determined to kill them)
‭‭26 “어린 사무엘은 점점 자라면서 여호와와 사람들에게 더욱 총애를 받았다.”(As young Samuel grew older, he became more favored by Jehovah and by the people)
‭‭27 “어느 날 한 예언자가 엘리에게 와서 다음과 같은 여호와의 말씀을 전해 주었다. “너희 조상들이 이집트에서 노예 생활을 할 때 내가 그들에게 나타나지 않았느냐?”(One day a prophet came to Eli and gave the following word of the Lord. “Did I not appear to your ancestors when they were slaves in Egypt?)
‭‭28 “내가 이스라엘 모든 지파 중에서 특별히 너의 조상 아론을 택하여 나의 제사장으로 삼고 그로 내 단에 제물을 드리게 하며 향을 피우게 하고 나를 섬길 때에 에봇을 입게 하지 않았느냐? 그리고 내가 그 희생의 제물을 너희 제사장들에게 주어 먹게 하였다.”(Have I not specially chosen your ancestor Aaron from all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer sacrifices on my altar, to burn incense, and to wear an ephod when you minister to me? And I gave the sacrifice to your priests to eat)
‭‭29 “그런데 어째서 너희는 나에게 가져오는 다른 제물까지 그렇게 탐하느냐? 어째서 너는 나보다 너의 아들들을 더 소중히 여기느냐? 너희가 내 백성이 드리는 제물 중에서 가장 좋은 것으로 자신을 살찌게 하는구나!”(Then why are you so greedy for the other offerings you bring to me? Why do you value your sons more than me? You fatten yourselves with the best of the offerings of my people!)
‭‭30 “그러므로 이스라엘의 하나님 나 여호와가 말한다. 내가 전에 레위 자손인 너의 집안이 언제나 제사장으로 나를 섬기게 하겠다고 약속하였으나 이제 나는 절대로 그렇게 하지 않겠다. 나는 누구든지 나를 소중히 여기는 자를 소중히 여기고 나를 멸시하는 자를 멸시할 것이다.”(Therefore says the Lord, the God of Israel. I promised that I would always make your Levite family serve me as priests, but now I will never do that. I will cherish those who cherish me and despise those who despise me)
‭‭31 “이제 내가 너의 가정과 집안의 젊은 사람들을 쳐서 제 명대로 살지 못하게 하고 네 집안에 노인이 하나도 없게 하겠다.”(Now I will strike down your family and the younger members of your household so that you will not live up to my commandments, and there will be no old people in your household)
‭‭32 “내가 이스라엘 백성에게 준 복을 보고 너와 너의 가족은 부러워할 것이며 너희는 환난을 당하고 네 집안에는 영영 노인이 없을 것이다.”(You and your family will be envious when you see the blessings I have given the people of Israel)
‭‭33 “또 살아 남는 자가 있어도 그가 네 눈을 멀게 하고 네 마음을 슬프게 할 것이며 너의 모든 자손들은 젊어서 죽게 될 것이다.”(And if anyone survives, he will blind you and grieve your heart, and all your offspring will die young)
‭‭34 “그리고 홉니와 비느하스가 한날에 죽는 것을 보면 너는 내가 말한 것이 사실임을 알게 될 것이다.”(And when you see Hophni and Phinehas die on the same day, you will know what I said is true)
‭‭35 “나는 나를 섬기고 내가 원하는 것을 행하는 충실한 제사장을 세울 것이다. 나는 그의 후손들을 축복할 것이며 그들은 내가 세운 왕 앞에서 항상 제사장으로 섬길 것이다.”(I will raise up faithful priests who will serve me and do what I want. I will bless his descendants, and they will always serve as priests before my king)
‭‭36 “그때 네 후손 중에 살아 남은 자들은 그에게 찾아가서 돈과 먹을 것을 구걸하며 엎드려 ‘나에게도 제사장의 직분을 맡겨 먹는 것이라도 충분히 먹게 해 주십시오’ 하고 말할 것이다.””(At that time, those of your descendants who are still alive will go to him and beg for money and food, and will fall on their faces and say, ‘Leave me to serve as a priest too, so that I may have enough to eat.’”)
