1 “여호와께서 나에게 말씀하셨다.”the LORD spoke to me
‭‭2 ““어째서 사람들이 이스라엘 땅에 대하여 ‘아버지가 신 포도를 먹었는데 아들의 이가 시다’ 는 속담을 쓰고 있는가?”Why do people use this proverb about the land of Israel: ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, but the children’s teeth are set on edge’?
‭‭3 “살아 있는 나 여호와가 분명히 말하지만 너희가 이스라엘에서 다시는 이 속담을 쓰지 못할 것이다.”As the LORD lives, I tell you the truth: You will never again use this proverb in Israel
‭‭4 “모든 생명은 다 나에게 속하였다. 아버지의 생명이 나에게 속한 것같이 아들의 생명도 나에게 속하였으니 범죄하는 사람만 죽을 것이다.”All life belongs to me. As the life of the Father belongs to me, so also the life of the Son belongs to me. Only the one who sins will die
‭‭5 ““만일 어떤 사람이 의로워서 공정하고 옳은 일을 행하며”If a person is righteous and does what is fair and right,
‭‭6 “산 위의 우상 신전에서 제물을 먹지 않고 이스라엘 우상에게 눈길을 돌리지 않으며 이웃의 아내를 더럽히거나 월경중에 있는 여인을 가까이하지 않으며”They will not eat sacrifices at the temple of the idols on the mountain, will not turn their eyes to the idols of Israel, will not defile their neighbors' wives, and will not approach a menstruating woman
‭‭7 “사람을 학대하지 않고 빚진 자에게서 잡은 전당물을 다시 돌려 주며 남의 것을 강제로 빼앗지 않고 굶주린 자에게 먹을 것을 주며 벗은 자에게 옷을 입힌다면,”
‭‭ If you do not oppress anyone, if you restore the pledge you took from the debtor, if you do not take anything by force from anyone, if you give food to the hungry and clothe the naked, 8 “또 그가 이자를 받지 않고 돈을 꾸어 주며 악한 일을 거절하고 사람과 사람 사이를 공정하게 판단하며”He also lends without interest, rejects evil, and judges fairly between people
‭‭9 “내 명령에 순종하고 내 법을 조심스럽게 지킨다면 그 사람이야말로 의로운 사람이다. 그는 분명히 살 것이다. 이것은 나 여호와의 말이다.”If a man obeys my commands and carefully keeps my laws, he is righteous, and he will surely live, declares the Lord
‭‭10 ““그가 난폭한 아들을 낳았다고 한번 가정해 보자. 그 아들이 이 모든 선은 하나도 행하지 않고 사람을 죽이며”Let us suppose that he had a violent son, who did not do any of these good deeds, but killed people,
‭‭11 “산 위의 우상 신전에서 제물을 먹고 이웃의 아내를 더럽히며”They eat sacrifices at the idol temple on the mountain and defile their neighbors' wives
‭‭12 “가난하고 불쌍한 사람을 학대하고 남의 것을 강제로 빼앗고 전당잡은 물건을 돌려 주지 않으며 우상에게 눈을 돌리고 더러운 일을 행하며”They oppress the poor and needy, take what belongs to others by force, do not return things they have taken as pawn, turn to idols, and commit unclean acts
‭‭13 “돈을 빌려 주고 높은 이자를 받는다면 그가 과연 살겠느냐? 결코 살지 못할 것이다. 그가 이 모든 더러운 일을 행하였으므로 반드시 죽을 것이며 그의 죽음에 대한 책임은 그에게 돌아갈 것이다.”If he lends money and charges high interest, will he live? He will never live. He will surely die because he has done all these dirty things, and the responsibility for his death will fall on him
‭‭14 ““그러나 만일 이 아들이 또 아들을 낳았다고 가정해 보자. 그 아들이 자기 아버지가 범한 모든 죄를 보았으나 그런 죄를 범하지 않고”But suppose this son had another son, who saw all the sins his father had committed, and yet did not commit them
‭‭15 “산 위의 우상 신전에서 제물을 먹지 않으며 이스라엘의 우상에게 눈을 돌리지도 않고 그 이웃의 아내를 더럽히지도 않으며”He did not eat sacrifices in the temple of the idols on the mountain, nor did he turn his eyes to the idols of Israel, nor did he defile his neighbor's wife
‭‭16 “사람을 학대하거나 돈을 빌려 주고 전당물을 잡지 않으며 남의 것을 강제로 빼앗지 않고 굶주린 자에게 먹을 것을 주며 벗은 자에게 옷을 입히고”Do not mistreat anyone, do not lend money, do not take anyone's property by force, do not give food to the hungry, and do not cover the naked with clothing
‭‭17 “가난한 자를 도와주며 돈을 빌려 주고도 이자를 받지 않고 내 법을 지키며 내 명령에 순종한다면 그는 자기 아버지의 죄로 죽지 않고 분명히 살 것이다.”If he helps the poor and lends money without charging interest, and keeps my laws and obeys my commands, he will not die for his father's sins; he will surely live
‭‭18 “그러나 그의 아버지는 난폭하여 자기 동족의 것을 강탈하고 자기 백성에게 악을 행하였으므로 자기가 범한 그 죄로 죽고 말 것이다.”But his father was violent and robbed his own people and did evil to his people; therefore he will die for the sins he committed
‭‭19 ““그런데 너희는 아버지가 죄를 지었는데도 어째서 그 아들이 벌을 받지 않느냐고 묻고 있다. 그 아들은 공정하고 옳은 일을 행하며 나의 모든 법을 준수하였으므로 그는 분명히 살 것이다.”But you ask, ‘Why is the son not punished, even though his father sinned?’ The son did what was just and right and kept all my laws, so he will surely live
‭‭20 “죽어야 할 사람은 바로 범죄하는 그 사람이다. 아들이 아버지의 죄 때문에 형벌을 받지 않을 것이며 아버지가 아들의 죄 때문에 형벌을 받지도 않을 것이다. 이와 같이 의로운 자의 의에 대한 보상도 자기에게 돌아가고 악인의 악에 대한 형벌도 자기에게 돌아갈 것이다.”The one who must die is the one who commits the crime. The son will not be punished for the sin of the father, nor will the father be punished for the sin of the son. In the same way, the reward of the righteous for his righteousness will be returned to him, and the punishment of the wicked for his wickedness will be returned to him
‭‭21 ““그러나 만일 악인이 그가 범한 모든 죄에서 돌이키고 내 법을 지키며 의로운 일을 행하면 그가 살고 분명히 죽지 않을 것이다.”But if the wicked turns from all the sins he has committed and keeps my law and does what is right, he will live; he will not die
‭‭22 “그가 범한 죄는 하나도 기억되지 않을 것이며 그가 행한 의로운 일로 그는 살게 될 것이다.”None of the sins he has committed will be remembered, and the righteousness he has done will make him live
‭‭23 “내가 어찌 악인이 죽는 것을 기뻐하겠느냐? 그가 죄악의 길에서 떠나 살면 내가 기뻐하지 않겠느냐?”Do I take pleasure in the death of the wicked? And not in his turning from his wicked ways and living?
‭‭24 ““그러나 만일 의로운 자가 그의 의로운 길에서 떠나 범죄하고 악인이 행하는 모든 더러운 일을 행하면 살겠느냐? 그가 행한 의로운 일은 하나도 기억되지 않을 것이며 그의 신실하지 못함과 그가 범한 죄 때문에 그는 죽게 될 것이다.”But if a righteous man turns from his righteous way and commits iniquity and commits all the abominations that the wicked do, will he live? None of the righteousness that he has done will be remembered; for his unfaithfulness and the sin that he has committed, he will die
‭‭25 ““그러나 너희는 내가 행하는 일이 옳지 못하다고 말하고 있다. 이스라엘 백성아, 들어라. 내가 하는 일이 옳지 못하냐? 오히려 너희가 하는 일이 옳지 못한 것이 아니냐?”But you say, “What I am doing is not right.” Listen, O people of Israel. Is it not my doings that are not right? Is it not your doings that are not right?
‭‭26 “만일 의로운 자가 그 의를 떠나 죄를 범하고 죽으면 그는 자기가 범한 죄 때문에 죽는 것이며”If a righteous person turns away from his righteousness and commits sin and dies, he will die for the sin he has committed
‭‭27 “만일 악한 자가 그 악에서 떠나 법을 지키고 옳은 일을 행하면 그는 자기 생명을 구원하게 될 것이다.”If a wicked person turns from his wickedness and keeps the law and does what is right, he will save his life
‭‭28 “그는 자기가 행한 일을 깨닫고 그 죄에서 돌이켰으므로 분명히 살고 죽지 않을 것이다.”He will surely live and not die, because he realized what he had done and turned from his sin
‭‭29 “그런데 너희 이스라엘 백성들은 ‘여호와가 공정하지 못하다’ 하고 말한다. 이스라엘 백성들아, 어째서 내가 공정하지 않느냐? 오히려 너희가 공정하지 못한 것이 아니냐?”But you Israelites say, ‘The Lord is not just.’ Why, O Israelites, is it not I who am not just? Is it not you who are not just?
‭‭30 ““나 주 여호와가 말한다. 이스라엘 백성들아, 너희가 행한 대로 내가 너희 각 사람을 심판하겠다. 너희는 회개하고 돌이켜 너희 모든 죄에서 떠나라. 그러면 너희가 죄 때문에 멸망하지 않을 것이다.”This is what the Sovereign LORD says: “I will judge each of you, O people of Israel, according to your ways. Repent and turn from all your sins, so that you will not perish because of your sins.”
‭‭31 “너희는 지금까지 범한 모든 죄를 버리고 마음과 심령을 새롭게 하라. 이스라엘 백성들아, 너희가 어째서 죽으려고 하느냐?”Cast away from you all the transgressions which you have committed, and get yourself a new heart and a new mind. Why should you die, O people of Israel?
‭‭32 “나 여호와가 말한다. 나는 그 누구도 죽는 것을 원하지 않는다. 그러므로 너희는 회개하고 살아라.””I, the Lord, say, I do not want anyone to die. Therefore repent and live
