[구약성경 창세기 13장] 아브람과 롯이 헤어지다 : [Old Testament, Genesis 13] Abram and Lot parted

1. 아브람은 자기 아내와 조카 롯과 함께 모든 소유를 이끌고 이집트를 떠나 가나안 남쪽 네겝 지방으로 올라갔는데

(Abram, along with his wife and nephew Lot, took all that he had and left Egypt and went up to the south of Canaan in the region of the Negev)

2. 그에게는 가축과 은금이 풍부하였다(He was rich in livestock and silver and gold)

3-4. 거기서 그는 계속 북쪽으로 올라가 벧엘과 아이 사이, 곧 전에 그가 천막을 치고 단을 쌓은 곳에 이르러 거기서 여호와께 경배하였다

(From there he continued going up north, between Bethel and Ai, where he had pitched his tent and built an altar, and worshiped the LORD there)

5. 롯에게도 소와 양과 종들이 있었다(Lot also had cattle and sheep and servants)

6. 아브람과 롯에게 가축이 너무 많아 그들이 함께 살기에는 그 땅의 목초지가 부족하였다

(Abram and Lot had too many livestock, and there was not enough pasture in the land for them to live together)

문자적으로는 ‘공유지’, ‘개활지’, ‘(성읍의) 사면’을 뜻한다. 성읍 주변에 열린 공간으로서, 가축들을 방목할 수 있는 꼴과 물이 있는 평원을 가리킨다고 본다(민 35:3; 수 14:4; 21:2). 가나안을 정복한 이스라엘 백성은 지파별로 영토를 분배한 뒤, 특별히 레위 지파에게는 각 지파에서 성읍들과 그 주변 목초지를 제공해 주었다. 개역한글판에서는 ‘들’로 표현했다.
(Literally, it means 'common land', 'open land', and 'slope (of Seongeup)'. As an open space around the city, it is considered to refer to a plain with pasture and water for livestock (Num 35:3; Jos 14:4; 21:2). After conquering Canaan, the Israelites divided their territory into tribes, and in particular the tribe of Levi, each tribe provided cities and surrounding pastures. 7. 그래서 아브람의 목자들과 롯의 목자들이 서로 다투었으며 게다가 가나안 사람과 브리스 사람도 그 땅에 살고 있었다

(So Abram's shepherds and Lot's shepherds quarreled with each other, and the Canaanites and Perizzites also lived in the land)

가나안 사람

이스라엘 백성이 팔레스틴에 들어가 살기 전부터 거주하고 있던 민족(족속)을 말한다(창 12:6, 24:3, 37, 출 3:8; 신 7:1). 그 중에는 헷, 가나안, 아모리, 히위, 여부스, 브리스, 기르가스 족속 등이 있다.

여기에 블레셋 족속이 포함되기도 하고 베니게(페니키아) 사람도 포함되는 경우와(수 13:2) 직접으로 이스라엘 사람에게 정복된 6내지 7족속을 가리키는 경우, 또는 그 중의 하나를 가리키는 경우(출 3:8) 등이 있어 폭넓게 사용되기도 한다. 요단 강 계곡에 살고 있던 족속만을 일컬어 가나안 사람이라고 말하기도 한다. 가나안 사람은 무역에 뛰어나 부를 이루었는데 이들로부터 상인(상고)이란 뜻을 지닌 히브리어 ‘케나아니’(Kenani)란 말이 생겼났다(호 12:7; 습 1:11).

안정된 농경생활과 상업으로 부를 이루고 있었던 이들은 바알, 아스다롯, 아세라 등의 우상을 섬겼다(민 25:1-5; 삿 3:7). 이들의 우상종교는 성적, 도덕적으로 심한 타락상을 보였는데 이것 때문에 하나님께서 이스라엘 백성에게 가나안 사람들을 철저히 진멸하라고 하신 것이다(신 20:16-18). 이스라엘 백성이 가나안의 타락한 죄에 물들지 않고 하나님의 거룩한 백성(출 19:5-6)으로 살아가기를 원하셨기 때문이었다

브리스 사람

‘시골 사람’, ‘돌담이 없는 마을 사람’이란 뜻. 아브라함이 가나안으로 이주하기 이전부터 산골에 흩어져 살던 가나안 원주민 가운데 한 족속. 가나안 정복 전쟁 당시에는 에브라임, 므낫세, 유다 지파가 분배받은 땅의 산악 지역에 거주하였다(수 11:3; 17:15; 삿 1:4-5). 하나님의 명령으로 대부분 진멸당했지만 일부는 살아서 이스라엘 백성의 노예가 되었고(왕상 9:20-21; 대하 8:7-8), 그중에는 바벨론 포로 후기까지 가나안에 생존한 자들도 있었다(스 9:1). 아무튼 이들은 이스라엘 역사 내내 선민들에게 우상 숭배를 조장하는 악역을 담당했었다(출 23:23-24; 신 20:17; 수 11:3; 삿 3:5; 왕상 9:20; 스 9:1).
(It means 'a countryman' or 'a villager without a stone wall'. One of the indigenous peoples of Canaan who had been scattered in the mountains before Abraham moved to Canaan. During the wars of conquest of Canaan, the tribes of Ephraim, Manasseh, and Judah inhabited the mountainous areas of the land that had been allocated (Joshua 11:3; 17:15; Judges 1:4-5). Most of them were destroyed by God's command, but some survived and became slaves to the Israelites (1 Kings 9:20-21; 2 Chronicles 8:7-8), and some of them survived in Canaan until the end of the Babylonian captivity (Ezra 9: One). In any case, they played the villain of promoting idolatry among the chosen people throughout Israel's history (Ex 23:23-24; Deut 20:17; Jos 11:3; Judges 3:5; 1 Kings 9:20; Ezra 9:1))

8. 그때 아브람이 롯에게 말하였다. "우리는 한 친척이다. 나와 너, 그리고 내 목자와 네 목자끼리 서로 다투지 말자

(Then Abram said to Lot, "We are one relative. Let's not argue with each other, me and you, and my shepherd and your shepherd)

9. 네 앞에 온 땅이 있지 않느냐? 자, 서로 갈라서자. 네가 원하는 땅을 택하라. 네가 동쪽으로 가면 나는 서쪽으로 가고 네가 서쪽으로 가면 나는 동쪽으로 가겠다"

(Isn't the whole earth before you? Come on, let's separate from each other. Choose the land you want. If you go east, I will go west; if you go west, I will go east")

10. 롯이 요단강 유역을 바라보니 소알까지 온 땅에 물이 넉넉하였다. 이 때는 아직 여호와께서 소돔과 고모라를 멸망시키시기 전이었으므로 그 땅이 마치 에덴 동산 같고 이집트의 비옥한 땅과 같았다

(Lot looked at the banks of the Jordan River, and there was plenty of water in all the land as far as Zoar. At this time, the land was like the garden of Eden and the fertile land of Egypt, since the LORD had not yet destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah)

-> 나와 우리도 눈 앞에 보이는 이익에 눈이 멀어, 잘못된 선택을 할 때가 분명히 있다

(Me and we are blind to the benefits we see before our eyes)

11. 그래서 롯이 요단강 유역을 택하고 동쪽으로 옮기자 그들은 서로 갈라서게 되었다

(So when Lot chose the Jordan River and moved east, they split up)

12. 아브람은 가나안 땅에 머물렀고 롯은 요단강 유역에 정착하여 소돔 근처에 천막을 쳤는데

(Abram stayed in the land of Canaan, and Lot settled in the Jordan River and pitched a tent near Sodom)

13. 소돔 사람들은 대단히 악하여 여호와께 크게 범죄하였다

(The people of Sodom were so wicked that they sinned greatly against Jehovah)

-> 나와 우리 또한 여호와께 항상 죄를 짓는다(Me and We Also Always Sin Against Jehovah)

14. 롯이 아브람을 떠난 후에 여호와께서 아브람에게 말씀하셨다. "너는 네가 있는 곳에서 동서남북을 바라보아라

(After Lot left Abram, the Lord spoke to Abram. “You look north, east, west, and north from where you are)

-> 하나님의 생각은 나 또는 우리의 생각과는 차원이 다르다(God's thoughts are different from mine or ours)

15. 보이는 땅을 너와 네 후손에게 영원히 주겠다(I will give the visible land to you and your descendants forever)

-> 하나님께서는 우리에게 제일 좋은 것을 허락하신다(God grants us the best)

16. 내가 네 후손을 땅의 티끌처럼 많게 할 것이니 사람이 땅의 티끌을 셀 수 있다면 네 후손도 셀 수 있을 것이다

(I will make your descendants as numerous as the dust of the earth. If a man can count the dust of the earth, he will also count your descendants)

-> 하나님께서는 우리가 측량할 수 없으만큼 복을 부어 주신다(God blesses us beyond measure)

17. 이제 너는 일어나 이리저리 다니며 그 땅을 사방 살펴보아라. 내가 그것을 너에게 주겠다"

(Now get up and go about it, and look around the land. I will give it to you")

-> 하나님은 언제나 우리에게 말씀하신다(God always speaks to us)

18. 그래서 아브람은 천막을 옮겨 헤브론의 마므레 상수리 숲 근처에 가서 정착하고 거기서 여호와께 단을 쌓았다

(So Abram moved his tent, went and settled near the oaks of Mamre in Hebron, and there he built an altar to the Lord)

-> 하나님께서 우리에게 명령하신 것을 행한 후 나와 우리는 주님께 경배하는 걸 잊지 않는지 반성해 볼 일이다

(After doing what God has commanded us to do, it is time to reflect on whether we and I do not forget to worship the Lord)
