1. 아브라함은 '그두라'라는 또 다른 여자와 결혼하였다

(Abraham married another woman named Keturah)

2. 그녀는 시므란, 욕산, 므단, 미디안, 이스박, 수아를 낳았으며

(She fathered Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shua)

3. 욕산은 스바와 드단을 낳았는데 드단의 자손들은 앗수르족, 르두시족, 르움미족이 되었다

(Jokshan was the father of Sheba and Dedan. The descendants of Dedan became the Assyrians, Ledusi, and Reummi)

4. 그리고 미디안의 아들은 에바, 에벨, 하녹, 아비다, 엘다아였다. 이상은 모두 그두라의 자손들이었다

(And the sons of Midian were Ephah, Eber, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. These were all the descendants of Keturah)

5. 아브라함은 그의 모든 재산을 이삭에게 주었으며(Abraham gave all his possessions to Isaac)

6. 자기 서자들에게도 재물을 주어 그들이 이삭을 떠나 동쪽 지방에 가서 살게 하였다

(He also gave wealth to his sons and daughters, so that they left Isaac and went to live in the eastern part of the country)

7-8. 아브라함이 늙고 나이 많아 175세에 숨을 거두자

(When Abraham was old and old, he died at the age of 175)

9. 그의 아들 이삭과 이스마엘이 그를 헷 사람 소할의 아들 에브론의 밭에 있는 마므레 앞 막벨라 굴에 장사하였다

(His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah in front of Mamre in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite)

10. 그 땅은 아브라함이 헷 사람들에게서 산 밭인데 아브라함과 사라가 함께 거기에 묻혔다

(It was a field that Abraham bought from the Hittites, where Abraham and Sarah were buried together)

11. 아브라함이 죽은 후에 하나님이 그의 아들 이삭을 축복하셨으며 이삭은 브엘-라해-로이 근처에서 살았다

(After Abraham died, God blessed his son Isaac, who lived near Beer-Lahai-Roi)

12. 사라의 여종 이집트인 하갈이 아브라함에게 낳은 아들 이스마엘의 자손은 이렇다

(These are the descendants of Ishmael, the son of Sarah's maidservant Hagar the Egyptian to Abraham)

13. 이스마엘의 장남은 느바욧이며 그 다음은 게달, 앗브엘, 밉삼,

(The eldest son of Ishmael was Nebaioth, followed by Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,)

14. 미스마, 두마, 맛사(Misma, Duma, Massa)

15. 하닷, 데마, 여둘, 나비스, 게드 마였다(Hadad, Tema, Jedul, Nabis, and Gedmah)

16. 이 사람들은 12 종족의 조상이 되었으며 이들의 이름은 그들의 마을과 부락 이름을 딴 것이었다

(These people became the ancestors of 12 tribes, and they were named after their villages and villages)

17. 이스마엘은 137세에 죽었으며(Ishmael died at the age of 137)

18. 그의 자손들은 하윌라에서부터 술까지 앗시리아로 향하는 이집트 동쪽 지방에 흩어져 아브라함의 다른 자손들에게 적대감을 가지고 살았다

(His descendants were scattered in the eastern part of Egypt from Havilah to Shur toward Assyria, living in hostility to the other descendants of Abraham)

19. 아브라함의 아들 이삭에 대한 이야기는 이렇다:(Here is the story of Abraham's son Isaac:)

20. 이삭은 40세에 메소포타미아 출신의 아람 사람 브두엘의 딸이며 라반의 누이동생인 리브가와 결혼하였다

(At the age of 40, Isaac married Rebekah, the sister of Laban and daughter of Bethuel, an Aramaean from Mesopotamia)

21. 리브가가 아이를 낳지 못하여 이삭이 여호와께 기도하자 여호와께서 그 기도를 들어주셨다. 그래서 리브가가 임신하게 되었는데

(When Rebekah was barren and Isaac prayed to the Lord, the Lord answered her prayer. So Rebekah became pregnant)

22. 뱃속에서 아이들이 서로 싸우고 있었다. 리브가가 "어째서 나에게 이런 일이 있는가?" 하고 여호와께 물으러 가자

(The children were fighting each other in the womb. Rebekah said, "Why is this happening to me?" and go inquire of the LORD)

23. 여호와께서 그녀에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "두 국민이 네 뱃속에 있구나. 두 민족이 네 태중에서 나누어질 것이니 한 민족이 다른 민족보다 강할 것이며 형이 동생을 섬기리라"

(The LORD said to her: "Two peoples are in your womb. Two peoples will be divided in your womb, and one nation will be stronger than the other, and the older brother will serve the younger")

24. 해산하게 되었을 때 그녀의 태에는 쌍둥이가 있었다(When she gave birth, she had twins in her womb)

25. 먼저 나온 아이는 마치 털옷을 입은 것처럼 전신이 불그스름한 털로 덮여 있어서 그 이름을 '에서' 라 하였고

(The first child to come out was covered with reddish hair as if wearing a fur coat, so he named him Esau)

26. 나중에 나온 그의 동생은 손으로 에서의 발꿈치를 꽉 찾았으므로 그 이름을 '야곱'이라고 하였다. 리브가가 그들을 낳았을 때 이삭은 60세였다

(His younger brother who came later found Esau's heel with his hand, so he named him 'Jacob'. Isaac was 60 years old when Rebekah gave birth to them)

27. 그 아이들이 자라 에서는 능숙한 사냥꾼이 되어 들을 좋아하였고 야곱은 조용한 사람이어서 집에 머물러 있기를 좋아하였다

(When the children grew up, Esau became a skilled hunter and loved the field. Jacob was a quiet man and preferred to stay at home)

28. 이삭은 에서가 사냥해 온 고기를 좋아하였으므로 그를 사랑하였고 리브가는 야곱을 사랑하였다

(Isaac loved Esau because he loved the meat he had hunted, and Rebekah loved Jacob)

29. 하루는 야곱이 죽을 쑤고 있었다. 그런데 에서가 사냥을 하고 돌아와서

(One day Jacob was making porridge. But when Esau returned from hunting)

30. 야곱에게 "배가 고파 죽겠으니 그 붉은 죽을 좀 다오" 하였다(그래서 에서에게는 붉다는 뜻을 지닌 '에돔'이라는 별병이 붙게 되었다)

(He said to Jacob, "Give me some of that red porridge, because I'm dying of hunger")

31. 이때 야곱이 "먼저 형의 장자권을 나에게 파시오" 하자

(At this time, Jacob said, "First sell me your brother's birthright")

32. 에서가 "내가 죽게 되었는데 이 장자권이 무슨 소용이 있겠느냐?" 하고 대답하였다

(Esau said, "I am about to die, and of what use is this birthright?" and answered)

33. 그러나 야곱은 "장자권을 다시 주장하지 않겠다고 나에게 맹세하시오" 하였다. 그래서 에서는 야곱에게 맹세하고 장자권을 그에게 팔았다

(But Jacob said, "Swear to me that you will not claim the birthright again." So Esau swore to Jacob and sold his birthright to him)

34. 야곱이 에서에게 빵과 팥죽을 주자 에서는 먹고 마신 후에 일어나 갔다. 그는 장자권을 가볍게 생각했던 것이다

(Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil soup, and after Esau had eaten and drank, he got up and went away. He took the birthright lightly)
