1 “어느 날 한 과부가 엘리사에게 와서 이렇게 호소하였다. “저의 남편은 죽었습 니다. 선생님도 아시겠지만 그 사람은 여호와를 잘 섬기는 예언자의 생도였습니다. 그가 죽기 전에 돈을 좀 빌려 쓴 것이 있는데 돈을 갚지 않는다고 빚쟁이가 와서 내 아들 둘을 데리고 가 종으로 삼겠다고 합니다.””One day a widow came to Elisha and appealed to him. “My husband is dead. As you know, this man was a student of a prophet who served Jehovah well. Before he dies, he borrows some money, but if I don't pay it back, the creditor comes and takes my two sons and says he'll make them slaves
‭‭2 ““내가 당신을 위해 어떻게 하면 좋겠소? 당신의 집에 무엇이 있는지 말해 보시오.” “저의 집에는 작은 기름 한 병 외에 아무것도 없습니다.””What would you like me to do for you? Tell me what you have in your house.” “I have nothing in my house but a small bottle of oil
‭‭3 ““당신은 이웃집에 가서 빈 그릇을 빌려 오시오. 되도록 많은 그릇을 빌려 와”You go to your neighbor's house and borrow an empty bowl. Borrow as many bowls as possible
‭‭4 “당신의 두 아들과 함께 집 안으로 들어가서 문을 닫고 그 모든 그릇에 기름을 부어 차는 대로 옮겨 놓으시오.””Go inside the house with your two sons, shut the door, pour oil into all the vessels and set them aside
‭‭5 “그래서 그 과부는 두 아들과 함께 집으로 가서 문을 닫고 자기 아들이 갖다 대는 그릇마다 기름을 따라 붓기 시작하였다.”So the widow went home with her two sons, shut the door, and began pouring oil into every bowl her son brought to her
‭‭6 “그러자 순식간에 그 모든 그릇에 기름이 가득 차지 않겠는가! 그 과부가 자기 아들들에게 그릇을 더 가져오라고 했으나 그들은 “이제 남은 그릇이 하나도 없습니다” 하고 대답하였다. 그러자 흐르던 기름이 곧 멈추고 말았다.”Then, in an instant, all the vessels would be filled with oil! The widow asked her sons to bring more vessels, but they replied: “We have no vessels left.” Then the flowing oil stopped immediately
‭‭7 “그래서 그 과부가 엘리사에게 돌아가서 그 모든 일을 보고하자 엘리사는 그녀에게 “당신은 그 기름을 팔아 모든 빚을 갚고 남는 돈으로 당신의 아들과 함께 생활하시오” 하였다.”So the widow went back to Elisha and reported everything. Elisha said to her, “Sell the oil and pay off all your debts, and use the excess money to live with your son.”
‭‭8 “하루는 엘리사가 수넴으로 가자 그 곳에 사는 어떤 귀부인이 그를 초대하여 식사를 대접하였다. 그 이후로 엘리사는 수넴에 갈 때마다 그 여자의 집에 가서 식사하였다.”One day, when Elisha went to Shunem, a noble lady living there invited him to eat. From then on, whenever Elisha went to Shunem, he went to her house to eat
‭‭9 “어느 날 그 여자가 자기 남편에게 이렇게 말하였다. “나는 우리 집에 와서 가끔 식사하는 이 사람이 거룩한 하나님의 사람이라고 생각합니다.”One day the woman said to her husband: “I think this man who comes to our house and eats occasionally is a holy man of God
‭‭10 “옥상에 작은 방 하나를 만들어 침대와 탁자와 의자와 등을 들여놓고 그가 올 때마다 쉬어 가게 합시다.””Let's make a small room on the roof, put in a bed, table, chair, and lamp, and let him rest whenever he comes
‭‭11 “하루는 엘리사가 수넴에 와서 자기 방으로 들어가 쉬고 있다가”One day Elisha came to Shunem and went to his room to rest
‭‭12 “사환 게하시에게 수넴 여자를 불러오라고 하였다. 그녀가 오자”He told his servant Gehazi to call for a woman from Shunem. let her come
‭‭13 “엘리사가 게하시에게 말하였다. “너는 이처럼 우리를 정성껏 대접하는 저 부인에게 우리가 대신 무엇을 해 주었으면 좋겠는지 물어 보아라. 그리고 왕이나 군사령관에게 부탁할 일이 있으면 내가 잘 말해 주겠다고 일러 주어라.” 그러자 그 여자는 “아닙니다. 나는 내 백성 가운데서 아무런 어려움 없이 살고 있습니다” 하고 대답하였다.”Elisha said to Gehazi. “You should ask that lady who treats us so well what she would like us to do for her. And if you have anything to ask of the king or the military commander, tell them that I will tell you well.” Then the woman said, “No. I am living among my people without any difficulties.”
‭‭14 “그때 엘리사가 게하시에게 “그러면 내가 저 부인을 위해 무엇을 해 주었으면 좋겠느냐?” 하고 물었다. 그러자 게하시가 “이 부인은 아들이 없고 남편은 늙었습니다” 하고 대답하였다.”Then Elisha asked Gehazi, “Then what would you like me to do for that woman?” he asked. Then Gehazi replied, “This woman has no son, and her husband is old.”
‭‭15 “그러자 엘리사가 “그 부인을 불러들여라” 하였다. 그 여자가 들어와서 문 앞에 서자”Then Elisha said, “Call the wife in.” Let the woman come in and stand at the door
‭‭16 “엘리사는 그녀에게 “내년 이맘때에 당신은 아들을 품에 안게 될 것입니다” 하고 예언하였다. 그러자 그 여자는 “아닙니다, 선생님. 저를 놀리지 마십시오” 하였다.”Elisha prophesied to her, “At this time next year you will have a son in your arms.” Then the woman said, “No, sir. Don't make fun of me.”
‭‭17 “그러나 엘리사가 말한 대로 그 여자는 그 이듬해 정말 아들을 낳았다.”However, as Elisha said, the woman did give birth to a son the following year
‭‭18 “그후로 그 아이는 그럭저럭 자라갔다. 어느 날 그는 밭에서 일꾼들과 함께 추수하는 자기 아버지에게 갔다가”After that, the child grew up just fine. One day he went to his father who was harvesting with the laborers in the field
‭‭19 “갑자기 “아이구 머리야! 아이구 머리야!” 하고 소리를 질러댔다. 그러자 그의 아버지가 자기 사환에게 아이를 집으로 데려다 주라고 하였다.”Suddenly, “Oh my head! Oh my head!” he shouted. Then his father asked his servant to take the child home
‭‭20 “그래서 사환은 아이를 그의 어머니에게 데려다 주었는데 그 아이는 정오까지 자기 어머니의 무릎 위에 누워 있다가 죽고 말았다.”So the servant brought the child to his mother, and the child lay on his mother's lap until noon and died
‭‭21 “그 어머니는 아들을 엘리사의 방으로 안고 가서 침대 위에 눕힌 다음 방문을 닫고 나와서”The mother carried her son to Elisha's room, laid him on the bed, closed the door, and came out
‭‭22 “남편을 불러 말하였다. “하인 한 사람과 나귀 한 마리를 준비해 주세요. 내가 급히 하나님의 사람에게 갔다오겠습니다.””I called my husband and said. “Please prepare a servant and a donkey. I will hurry to the man of God
‭‭23 ““어째서 오늘 가려고 하시오? 오늘은 초하루도, 안식일도 아니지 않소?” “별일은 아닙니다만 갔다와야겠습니다.””Why do you want to go today? Isn’t today New Year’s Day and the Sabbath?” “It’s not a big deal, but I have to go
‭‭24 “그러고서 그 여자는 나귀를 타고 자기 사환에게 “될 수 있는 대로 급히 몰아라. 내 지시가 있을 때까지 속도를 늦춰서는 안 된다” 하였다.”Then the woman rode on her donkey and said to her servant, “Drive as fast as you can. You must not slow down until I give you instructions.”
‭‭25 “그녀가 갈멜산에 이르자 엘리사는 멀리서 그녀를 보고 자기 사환 게하시에게 말하였다. “보라, 저기 수넴 여자가 오고 있다.”When she reached Mount Carmel, Elisha saw her from a distance and said to his servant Gehazi. “Look, there is a woman from Shunem coming
‭‭26 “너는 달려가서 무슨 일인지 알아보고 남편과 아이가 잘 있는지 물어 보아라.” 그 여자는 게하시에게 모두 잘 있다고 말한 다음”You run and find out what is going on and ask if your husband and children are okay.” The woman told Gehazi that all was well,
‭‭27 “산 위에 있는 엘리사에게 가서 그 앞에 엎드려 그의 발을 끌어안았다. 그때 게하시가 그 여자를 밀어내려고 하자 엘리사가 말하였다. “내버려 두어라. 무슨 괴로운 일이 있는 것 같은데 여호와께서는 아직 그 이유를 나에게 말씀해 주시지 않았다.””He went to Elisha on the mountain, fell down in front of him, and embraced his feet. Then Gehazi tried to push her away, but Elisha said, “Leave it alone. Something seems to be troubling me, but Jehovah has not yet told me why
‭‭28 “그러자 그 여자가 엘리사에게 말하였다. “내가 선생님에게 아들을 갖게 해 달라고 부탁하였습니까? 오히려 나를 놀리지 말라고 말씀드리지 않았습니까?””Then the woman said to Elisha. “Did I ask the teacher to give me a son? Didn't I tell you not to make fun of me?
‭‭29 “이때 엘리사가 게하시를 보고 이렇게 말하였다. “너는 서둘러 내 지팡이를 가지고 가거라. 가다가 아무에게도 인사하지 말며 다른 사람이 인사해도 받지 말고 급히 가서 지팡이를 그 아이 얼굴에 놓아라.””At this time, Elisha saw Gehazi and said: “You must hurry up and take my staff. As you go, do not greet anyone and do not accept anyone else's greetings. Go quickly and put your staff on the child's face
‭‭30 “그러나 그 여자가 엘리사에게 “내가 여호와의 이름으로 맹세하지만 선생님이 살아 계시는 한 나는 선생님을 떠나지 않을 것입니다” 하자 엘리사는 하는 수 없이 그녀를 따라갔다.”But the woman said to Elisha, “I swear by the name of the Lord, but as long as you live, I will not leave you.” Elisha had no choice but to follow her
‭‭31 “게하시가 앞서 가서 엘리사의 지팡이를 그 아이 얼굴에 놓았으나 살아날 기색이 전혀 보이지 않았다. 그래서 그는 엘리사에게 돌아와서 “아이가 깨어나지 않습니다” 하였다.”Gehazi went ahead and put Elisha's staff on the boy's face, but he showed no signs of coming to life. So he returned to Elisha and said, “The child does not wake up.”
‭‭32 “엘리사가 도착하여 들어가 보니 아이가 침대 위에 죽어 있었다.”When Elisha arrived, he went in and found the child dead on the bed
‭‭33 “그는 문을 닫고 여호와께 기도한 다음”He shuts the door, prays to the Lord,
‭‭34 “자기 입과 눈과 손을 그 아이의 입과 눈과 손에 맞대고 엎드렸다. 그러자 그 아이의 몸이 점점 따뜻해지기 시작하였다.”He put his mouth, eyes, and hands on the child's mouth, eyes, and hands, and fell on his face. Then the child's body began to warm up
‭‭35 “엘리사는 침대에서 내려와 방 안을 이리저리 걸어다니다가 다시 올라가서 그 아이 위에 엎드렸다. 그러자 그 아이는 재채기를 일곱 번 하고 눈을 떴다.”Elisha got down from the bed and walked around the room, then got up and lay on the child. Then the child sneezed seven times and opened his eyes
‭‭36 “그때 엘리사는 게하시를 불러 그 아이의 어머니를 데려오라고 하였다. 그녀가 들어오자 엘리사는 “당신의 아들을 데려가시오” 하였다.”Then Elisha called Gehazi and told him to bring the child's mother. When she came in, Elisha said, “Take your son.”
‭‭37 “그러자 그 여자는 엘리사의 발 앞에 엎드려 절한 다음 아들을 안고 밖으로 나갔다.”Then the woman fell at Elisha's feet, bowed, and took her son and went outside
‭‭38 “한때 온 땅에 기근이 들었을 때 엘리사는 길갈로 돌아가서 예언자의 생도들을 가르치고 있었다. 어느 날 그는 자기 사환에게 큰 솥을 걸고 생도들을 위해 국을 끓이라고 지시하였다.”At one time, when there was a famine throughout the land, Elisha returned to Gilgal and was teaching the disciples of the prophet. One day he instructed his servant to set up a large pot and cook soup for the students
‭‭39 “그때 생도 중 한 사람이 국거리를 캐려고 들에 나갔다가 야생 덩굴에서 들외를 따 가지고 돌아와 국솥에 썰어 넣었으나 거기에 독소가 들어 있는 것을 아무도 알지 못하였다.”At that time, one of the cadets went out to the field to dig soup, picked wild vines, brought them back, and cut them into a soup pot, but no one knew that they contained toxins
‭‭40 “그러나 예언자의 생도들이 국을 퍼다 먹다가 엘리사에게 “국에 독이 들었습니다!” 하고 외쳤다.”However, while the prophet's students were scooping and eating soup, Elisha said, "The soup is poisoned!" exclaimed
‭‭41 “그래서 엘리사가 곡식 가루를 조금 가져오게 하여 그것을 솥에 던져 넣고 다시 퍼다 먹게 했더니 아무런 해가 없었다.”So Elisha asked for some grain flour, threw it into the pot, scooped it up again, and ate it, but it did no harm
‭‭42 “어느 날 바알 – 살리사에서 어떤 사람이 처음 추수한 보리로 빵 20개를 만들고 이제 막 꺾은 곡식 이삭을 자루에 넣어 가지고 와서 엘리사에게 주었다. 그러자 그는 자기 사환에게 그것을 예언자의 생도들에게 갖다 주어 먹게 하라고 지시하였다.”One day, a man from Baal-Salisha made 20 loaves of barley from the first harvest and brought a bag of freshly picked ears of grain and gave it to Elisha. Then he instructed his servant to bring it to the disciples of the Prophet so that they could eat it
‭‭43 “그러나 그 사환이 “이것을 가지고 어떻게 100명을 먹일 수 있겠습니까?” 하자 엘리사가 대답하였다. “가져가서 먹여라. 여호와께서는 그들이 충분히 먹고 남을 것이라고 말씀하셨다.””But the servant said, "How can I feed 100 people with this?" Elisha answered. “Take it and feed it. Jehovah said they would have enough to eat and have a surplus
‭‭44 “그래서 그는 그 음식을 가져다가 생도들에게 먹였는데 여호와의 말씀대로 그들이 다 먹고도 남았다.”So he took the food and fed the students, and they ate and had more, just as the LORD had said
