1 “그 후에 모압 사람과 암몬 사람이 일부 마온 사람들과 함께 와서 유다를 침략하였다.”Then the Moabites and Ammonites, along with some Maonites, came and invaded Judah
‭‭2 “그러자 어떤 사람들이 여호사밧에게 와서 이렇게 보고하였다. “엄청난 대군이 왕을 치려고 사해 건너편 에돔에서 와서 엔 – 게디라고도 부르는 하사손 – 다말을 이미 점령하였습니다.””Then some people came to Jehoshaphat and reported this. “A great army came from Edom on the other side of the Dead Sea to attack the king, and has already captured Hazarson-Tamar, also called En-Gedi.”
‭‭3 “여호사밧은 이 보고를 받고 두려워서 여호와께 물어 보기로 결심하고 모든 유다 백성에게 금식 선포령을 내렸다.”When Jehoshaphat heard this report, he was afraid and decided to inquire of the Lord
‭‭4 “그러자 백성들은 여호와께 도움을 구하려고 전국 각처에서 예루살렘으로 모여들었다.”People then flocked to Jerusalem from all over the country to ask Jehovah for help
‭‭5 “백성들이 성전 새 뜰에 모였을 때 여호사밧왕은 군중 가운데 서서”When the people gathered in the new courtyard of the temple, King Jehoshaphat stood in the midst of the crowd
‭‭6 “이렇게 기도하였다. “우리 조상의 하나님 여호와여, 주는 하늘에서 세상 모든 나라를 다스리는 하나님이 아니십니까? 주에게는 힘과 능력이 있으므로 아무도 주를 당해 낼 자가 없습니다.”I prayed like this. “O LORD, the God of our ancestors, are you not the God who rules over all the kingdoms of the earth from heaven? Because you have strength and power, no one can stand against you
‭‭7 “우리 하나님이시여, 주는 이스라엘 백성 앞에서 이 땅의 원주민을 쫓아내시고 주의 친구인 아브라함의 후손들에게 이 땅을 영원히 주시지 않았습니까?”O our God, did you not drive out the natives of the land before the people of Israel and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham, your friend?
‭‭8 “그들은 이 땅에 정착해 살면서 주를 위해 이 성전을 짓고 이렇게 말하였습니다.”They settled down and lived on this land and built this temple for the Lord and said:
‭‭9 “‘만일 전쟁이나 전염병이나 기근과 같은 재앙이 우리에게 닥쳤을 때 우리가 이 성전 앞에서 주께 부르짖으면 주께서는 우리의 기도를 들으시고 우리를 구해 주실 것이다.’”‘If we cry out to the Lord in front of this temple when disasters such as war, pestilence, or famine come upon us, the Lord will hear our prayers and deliver us.’
‭‭10 ““여호와여, 지금 암몬 사람과 모압 사람과 에돔 사람들이 우리를 공격해 오고 있습니다. 옛날 우리 조상들이 이집트에서 나올 때 주께서는 그들의 땅에 들어가는 것을 허락해 주시지 않았습니다. 그래서 우리 조상들은 그들의 땅을 돌아가면서도 그들을 치지 않았는데”“Now, O LORD, the Ammonites, the Moabites, and the Edomites are attacking us. When our ancestors came out of Egypt, the Lord did not allow them to enter their land. So our ancestors went round their lands and did not strike them
‭‭11 “이제 저들이 우리에게 하는 짓을 보십시오. 저들은 주께서 우리에게 주신 땅에서 우리를 쫓아내려고 왔습니다.”Now look what they do to us. They have come to drive us out of the land you gave us
‭‭12 “우리 하나님이시여, 저들을 그냥 두시겠습니까? 우리를 치러 오는 이 엄청난 대군을 막아낼 힘이 우리에게는 없습니다. 우리는 어떻게 해야 좋을지 몰라 주만 바라보고 있습니다.””Our God, will you leave them alone? We do not have the strength to withstand this great army coming against us. We do not know what to do, so we are looking at the Lord.”
‭‭13 “유다 사람들이 부녀자와 어린 아이들까지 모두 여호와 앞에 섰을 때”When all the men of Judah, including women and children, stood before the LORD
‭‭14 “여호와의 성령께서 군중 가운데 선 레위 사람 야하시엘을 감동시키셨는데 그는 아삽 집안의 후손으로 맛다냐의 현손이며 여이엘의 증손이요 브나야의 손자이며 스가랴의 아들이었다.”The Spirit of the Lord moved Jahaziel, a Levite, standing in the midst of the crowd
‭‭15 “그러자 야하시엘이 이렇게 외쳤다. “유다와 예루살렘의 모든 백성들이여, 그리고 여호사밧왕이시여, 여호와께서 하시는 말씀을 들으십시오. ‘너희는 이 대군 때문에 두려워하거나 낙심하지 말아라. 이 전쟁은 너희 전쟁이 아니라 나 여호와의 전쟁이다.”Then Jahaziel exclaimed: “All the people of Judah and Jerusalem, and King Jehoshaphat, listen to what the Lord is saying. ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged by this great army. This war is not your war, it is the LORD's war
‭‭16 “내일 너희는 그들 맞은편으로 내려가거라. 그들이 시스 고개로 올라올 때 너희는 여루엘 광야로 트인 계곡 어귀에서 그들을 만나게 될 것이다.”Tomorrow you will go down opposite them. When they come up the Pass of Sis, you will meet them at the mouth of the valley that opens into the Wilderness of Jeruel
‭‭17 “그러나 너희는 싸울 필요가 없다. 각자 자기 위치를 정하고 서서 나 여호와가 어떻게 너희를 구원하는지 보아라. 유다와 예루살렘 사람들아, 너희는 조금도 두려워하거나 낙심하지 말고 내일 저들을 향해 나아가거라. 나 여호와가 너희와 함께할 것이다.’ ””But you don't have to fight. Each of you take your place and stand and see how I, the LORD, will save you. People of Judah and Jerusalem, do not be afraid or discouraged, but go towards them tomorrow. I, Jehovah, will be with you.’”
‭‭18 “이 말을 듣고 여호사밧왕이 몸을 굽혀 얼굴을 땅에 대자 유다와 예루살렘 백성들도 엎드려 여호와께 경배하였다.”When King Jehoshaphat heard this, he bowed down with his face to the ground, and the people of Judah and Jerusalem fell down and worshiped the LORD
‭‭19 “그때 고핫 자손과 고라 자손의 레위 사람들은 일어서서 큰 소리로 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와를 찬양하였다.”Then the Levites of the sons of Kohath and the sons of Korah stood up and praised the Lord, the God of Israel, with a loud voice
‭‭20 “다음날 아침 일찍 유다군이 드고아 광야를 향해 출발하려고 할 때 여호사밧왕이 서서 백성들에게 외쳤다. “유다와 예루살렘 백성 여러분, 내 말을 들으십시오. 여러분은 여러분의 하나님 여호와를 신뢰하십시오. 그러면 여호와께서 여러분을 붙들어 주실 것입니다. 여러분은 또 그의 예언자들을 신뢰하십시오. 그러면 여러분이 승리할 것입니다.””Then the Levites of the sons of Kohath and the sons of Korah stood up and praised the Lord, the God of Israel, with a loud voice
‭‭21 “여호사밧은 백성들과 의논한 후에 찬양대를 조직하여 거룩한 예복을 입히고 그들을 진군하는 부대 선두에 세워 이렇게 찬양하도록 하였다. “여호와께 감사하라. 그의 사랑은 영원하다!””After consulting with the people, Jehoshaphat organized a choir, put them in holy robes, and set them at the head of the advancing troops to sing like this. “Give thanks to Jehovah. His love is forever!”
‭‭22-23 “찬양대가 찬송을 부르자 여호와께서는 침략군들에게 혼란을 일으켜 자기들끼리 서로 치게 하셨다. 이때 암몬 사람과 모압 사람들이 에돔 사람을 쳐서 그들을 완전히 죽이고, 다음은 암몬 사람과 모압 사람들끼리 싸움이 붙어 서로 치고 죽였다.”As the choir sang, Jehovah caused confusion among the invading armies, causing them to strike each other. Then the Ammonites and the Moabites attacked the Edomites and completely killed them
‭‭24 “유다 사람들이 광야가 내려다보이는 곳에 이르러 적군이 있는 쪽을 바라다보았을 때 죽은 시체만 땅에 엎드러져 있었고 살아 남은 자는 하나도 없었다.”When the men of Judah came to a place overlooking the wilderness and looked in the direction of the enemy, only dead bodies lay on the ground, and no one was left alive
‭‭25 “그래서 여호사밧왕과 그의 백성들은 그리로 가서 시체를 샅샅이 뒤져 금품과 의복과 그 밖의 전리품을 거둬들였는데 물건이 가져갈 수 없을 정도로 너무 많아서 그것을 거둬들이는 데 3일이나 걸렸다.”So King Jehoshaphat and his people went there, searched the body, and collected the money, clothes, and other booty
‭‭26 “전리품을 약탈한 지 4일째가 되는 날에 그들은 브라가 골짜기에 모여 여호와를 찬양하였다. 그래서 오늘날까지도 그 곳 이름이 ‘찬송의 골짜기’ 로 불려지고 있다.”On the fourth day after the plunder, they gathered in the valley of Bragah to praise the Lord. So to this day, the name of the place is called 'Valley of Praise'.
‭‭27 “이와 같이 여호와께서 그들을 대적의 손에서 기적적으로 구출해 주셨으므로 그들은 여호사밧의 인솔하에 기쁜 마음으로 예루살렘에 돌아왔다.”Thus the Lord miraculously delivered them from the hand of their enemies, and they returned to Jerusalem with joy under the leadership of Jehoshaphat
‭‭28 “그들은 비파와 수금을 타고 나팔을 불면서 예루살렘에 이르러 곧장 여호와의 성전으로 나아갔다.”They came to Jerusalem playing harps and harps and blowing trumpets, and went straight to the temple of the LORD
‭‭29 “모든 인접국들은 여호와께서 이스라엘의 대적과 싸우셨다는 말을 듣고 하나님을 몹시 두려워하였다.”All the neighboring countries feared God when they heard that the Lord had fought against the enemies of Israel
‭‭30 “그래서 여호사밧은 평화로운 가운데 나라를 다스렸다. 이것은 하나님께서 사방으로 그를 안전하게 지켜 주셨기 때문이었다.”So Jehoshaphat ruled the country in peace. This was because God kept him safe on all sides
‭‭31 “여호사밧은 35세에 유다 왕이 되어 예루살렘에서 25년을 통치하였다. 그리고 그의 어머니는 실히의 딸인 아수바였다.”Jehoshaphat became king of Judah at the age of 35 and reigned for 25 years in Jerusalem. And his mother was Azubah, daughter of Shilhi
‭‭32 “그는 자기 아버지 아사와 같이 여호와께서 보시기에 옳은 일을 하였으나”He did what was right in the sight of the Lord, as Asa his father had done
‭‭33 “산당을 헐지 않았으므로 아직도 백성들의 마음이 그들 조상의 하나님께 진심으로 돌아오지 않았다.”The high places were not torn down, so the hearts of the people had not yet truly returned to the God of their ancestors
‭‭34 “이 밖에 여호사밧이 행한 모든 일은 하나니의 아들 예후가 쓴 책에 자세히 기록되어 있으며 또 그것은 이스라엘 왕들의 역사책에도 기록되어 있다.”Everything else Jehoshaphat did was recorded in detail in the book written by Hanani's son Jehu, and also in the history of the kings of Israel
‭‭35 “유다의 여호사밧왕은 말년에 이스라엘의 아하시야왕과 우호 관계를 가졌는데 아하시야는 대단히 악한 왕이었다.”King Jehoshaphat of Judah had a friendly relationship with King Ahaziah of Israel in his later years, but Ahaziah was a very evil king
‭‭36 “그들은 에시온 – 게벨에서 다시스로 왕래할 무역선을 만들었다.”They built trade ships from Ezion’–’Geber to go to Tarshish
‭‭37 “그러나 마레사 사람 도다와후의 아들인 엘리에셀이 여호사밧에게 “왕이 아하시야와 우호 관계를 가졌기 때문에 여호와께서 왕이 만든 배를 부숴 버릴 것입니다” 하고 예언하였다. 그래서 예언한 대로 그 배들은 파선하여 다시스로 갈 수가 없었다.”But Eliezer, the son of Dodawahu from Maresah, prophesied to Jehoshaphat: “Because you have friendly relations with Ahaziah, Jehovah will destroy the ships you have built.” So, as prophesied, the ships were shipwrecked and could not go to Tarshish
