1 “이때 유다와 베냐민의 원수들은 바빌로니아에서 돌아온 포로들이 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 성전을 짓고 있다는 말을 듣고”At this time, the enemies of Judah and Benjamin heard that the Babylonian captives were building a temple for the Lord, the God of Israel
‭‭2 “스룹바벨과 그 밖의 지도자들에게 와서 이렇게 말하였다. “우리도 당신들과 함께 성전을 짓도록 해 주시오. 당신들이 섬기는 하나님을 우리도 섬기고 있소. 우리는 앗시리아의 에살핫돈왕이 우리를 이 곳으로 이주시킨 때부터 그분에게 제사를 드려 왔소.””They came to Zerubbabel and the other leaders and said: “Let us also build a temple with you. We serve the God you serve. We have been offering sacrifices to Esarhaddon, king of Assyria, since he brought us here.”
‭‭3 “그러나 스룹바벨과 예수아와 다른 지도자들은 “그럴 수 없소. 우리 하나님을 위해 성전을 짓는 일에 당신들은 상관하지 마시오. 이스라엘 하나님의 성전은 페르시아의 키루스황제가 명령한 대로 우리가 단독으로 건축하겠소” 하고 대답하였다.”But Zerubbabel, Yeshua, and other leaders said, “It can't be. Do not concern yourself with building a temple for our God. We alone will build the temple of the God of Israel, just as the Persian emperor Cyrus commanded.”
‭‭4 “그때부터 그 땅에 살고 있던 사람들이 유다 사람들을 괴롭히고 성전 공사를 방해하며”From that time on, the people who lived in the land harassed the people of Judah and interfered with the work of the temple

‭‭17 “그러자 황제는 사령관 르훔과 서기관 심새와 그리고 사마리아와 그 밖의 유프라테스강 서쪽 지방에 사는 그들의 동료들에게 이런 답장을 보냈다. “너희들이 평안하기를 바란다.”Then the emperor sent this reply to Rehum the commander, Shimshai the scribe, and their companions who lived in Samaria and the other regions west of the Euphrates. “I hope you are at peace
‭‭18 “너희가 보낸 편지는 번역되어 잘 읽었다.”The letter you sent was translated and read well
‭‭19 “내가 명령을 내려 조사해 보았더니 이 성이 옛날부터 왕들에게 거역하여 반란을 일으키며 폭동을 일삼아 온 것이 사실이었다.”I ordered and investigated, and it is true that this city has rebelled against the kings since ancient times, causing riots

‭‭22 “너희는 즉시 이 일을 처리하여 더 이상 나에게 피해가 없도록 하라.””You must take care of this immediately so that no further harm is done to me.”
‭‭23 “아르타크셀크세스황제의 편지가 도착하자 르훔과 서기관 심새와 그들의 동료들은 편지를 읽어 보고 즉시 예루살렘으로 가서 권력과 힘으로 그 성의 재건 공사를 중단시켰다.”When the letter from Emperor Artaxerxes arrived, Rehum, Shimshai the scribe, and their companions read the letter and immediately went to Jerusalem and stopped the rebuilding of the city by force and power
