1 “부드러운 대답은 분노를 가라앉혀도 과격한 말은 분노를 일으킨다.”A gentle answer calms anger, but harsh words arouse anger
‭‭2 “지혜 있는 자는 지식이 돋보이게 말하지만 미련한 자는 어리석은 말만 지껄여댄다.”A wise man speaks knowledgeably, but a fool only babbles foolish things
‭‭3 “여호와께서는 어디서든지 악한 사람과 선한 사람을 지켜 보신다.”Jehovah watches over both bad and good people everywhere
‭‭4 “따뜻하고 부드러운 말은 생명 나무와 같아도 잔인한 말은 사람의 마음을 상하게 한다.”Warm and gentle words are like a tree of life, but cruel words break people's hearts
‭‭5 “자기 아버지의 가르침을 무시하는 사람은 미련한 자요 자기 아버지가 타이를 때 듣는 사람은 슬기로운 자이다.”He who ignores his father's teachings is a fool, but he who listens to his father's advice is wise
‭‭6 “의로운 사람의 집에는 보물이 많아도 악인의 소득에는 문젯거리가 많다.”The house of a righteous man is full of treasures, but the income of the wicked is full of problems
‭‭7 “지혜로운 사람은 지식을 전하지만 미련한 사람은 그렇지 못하다.”A wise person imparts knowledge, but a foolish person does not
‭‭8 “여호와께서 악인의 제사는 미워하셔도 정직한 사람의 기도는 기뻐하신다.”The Lord hates the sacrifices of the wicked, but He delights in the prayers of the upright
‭‭9 “여호와께서 악인의 길은 미워하셔도 의를 추구하는 사람은 사랑하신다.”The Lord hates the ways of the wicked, but he loves those who pursue righteousness
‭‭10 “진리를 저버리는 자는 엄한 벌을 받을 것이며 책망할 때 듣지 않는 자는 죽게 될 것이다.”Those who abandon the truth will be severely punished, and those who do not listen when rebuked will die
‭‭11 “지옥의 깊은 곳도 여호와 앞에 드러나는데 사람이 어찌 자기 생각을 여호와께 숨길 수 있겠는가!”Even the depths of hell are revealed to Jehovah, so how can a person hide his thoughts from Jehovah
‭‭12 “거만한 사람은 책망받기를 싫어하며 지혜로운 사람에게 찾아가지 않는다.”Arrogant people do not like to be rebuked and do not go to wise people
‭‭13 “마음의 즐거움은 얼굴 표정을 밝게 하고 마음의 근심은 심령을 상하게 한다.”A joyful heart brightens the countenance, and a sorrowful heart hurts the spirit
‭‭14 “지혜로운 자는 지식을 추구하지만 미련한 자는 어리석음을 즐긴다.”A wise man pursues knowledge, but a fool delights in foolishness
‭‭15 “고통당하는 자의 삶은 비참하나 마음에 기쁨을 가진 자는 항상 즐겁기만 하다.”The life of a suffering person is miserable, but a person with joy in his heart is always happy
‭‭16 “가난하지만 여호와를 두려운 마음으로 섬기는 것이 부유하면서도 늘 번민 속에 사는 것보다 낫다.”It is better to be poor and serve Jehovah with fear than to be rich and live in constant distress
‭‭17 “채소를 먹어도 서로 사랑하는 것이 살진 소를 먹으면서 서로 미워하는 것보다 낫다.”It is better to love one another while eating vegetables than to hate one another while eating fat cows
‭‭18 “성미가 급한 사람은 다툼을 일으켜도 좀처럼 화를 내지 않는 사람은 시비를 그치게 한다.”An impatient person may cause a fight, but a person who rarely gets angry will stop the fight
‭‭19 “게으른 자의 길은 가시밭과 같고 정직한 자의 길은 고속 도로와 같다.”The path of the lazy is like a thorny field, and the path of the honest is like a highway
‭‭20 “지혜로운 아들은 자기 아버지를 즐겁게 하여도 미련한 아들은 자기 어머니를 업신여긴다.”A wise son pleases his father, but a foolish son despises his mother
‭‭21 “무지한 사람은 어리석음을 좋아하지만 지혜 있는 자는 바른 길을 걷는다.”Ignorant people love foolishness, but wise people walk the right path
‭‭22 “조언을 해 주는 사람이 없으면 계획한 일이 실패하여도 조언을 해 주는 사람이 많으면 계획한 일이 성공한다.”If there is no one to give advice, the plan will fail, but if there are many people to give advice, the plan will succeed
‭‭23 “대답 한마디 잘해서 사람이 기쁨을 얻는 일은 얼마든지 있다. 제때에 적절한 말을 한다는 것이 얼마나 귀한 일인가!”There are many ways in which a person can gain joy by giving a good answer. How precious it is to say the right thing at the right time!
‭‭24 “지혜로운 사람은 위에 있는 생명의 길을 향하므로 아래 있는 지옥을 떠나게 된다.”A wise person leaves the hell below by heading towards the path of life above
‭‭25 “여호와는 교만한 자의 집을 허시고 과부의 재산은 보호하신다.”Jehovah tears down the houses of the proud, but protects the property of widows
‭‭26 “여호와께서 악인의 생각은 미워하셔도 마음이 순결한 사람의 생각은 기뻐하신다.”The thoughts of the wicked hate the LORD, but he delights in the thoughts of the pure in heart
‭‭27 “부정 이득을 탐하는 자는 자기 가족에게 해를 끼치지만 뇌물을 싫어하는 자는 살 것이다.”He who is greedy for ill-gotten gains will harm his family, but he who hates bribes will live
‭‭28 “의로운 사람은 대답할 말을 깊이 생각하여도 악인은 악한 말을 마구 내뱉는다.”A righteous person thinks deeply about what to say in reply, but a wicked person spews out evil words
‭‭29 “여호와께서 악인은 멀리하시지만 의로운 사람의 기도는 들으신다.”Jehovah is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayers of the righteous
‭‭30 “밝은 표정은 마음을 기쁘게 하고 기쁜 소식은 건강에 좋다.”A bright expression makes your heart happy and good news is good for your health
‭‭31 “좋은 책망을 들을 줄 아는 사람은 지혜로운 자이다.”A person who knows how to listen to good reproof is wise
‭‭32 “타이르는 말을 무시하는 것은 자기 자신을 멸시하는 것이지만 책망을 달게 받으면 깨달음을 얻는다.”To ignore the words of a scolding is to despise oneself, but to receive rebuke earns enlightenment
‭‭33 “여호와를 두려워하면 지혜를 얻는다. 사람은 영예를 얻기에 앞서 먼저 겸손해야 한다.”Fear the Lord and you will gain wisdom. A person must first be humble before gaining honor
