1 “계획은 사람이 세우지만 그 결과는 하나님께 달려 있다.”People make plans, but the results depend on God
‭‭2 “사람의 행위가 자기 보기에는 다 깨끗한 것 같아도 마음을 살피시는 여호와 앞에서는 그렇지 않다.”A person's deeds may seem clean in their own eyes, but they are not so before the Lord, who searches the heart
‭‭3 “네가 하는 일을 여호와께 맡겨라. 그러면 네가 계획한 일이 이루어질 것이다.”Commit your work to the Lord. Then what you plan will come true
‭‭4 “여호와께서 모든 것을 자기 목적에 맞도록 만드셨으므로 악인들도 재앙의 날을 위해 존재한다.”Since Jehovah has made everything to suit his purpose, even the wicked exist for the day of disaster
‭‭5 “여호와께서 교만한 자들을 미워하시므로 그들은 절대로 형벌을 면치 못할 것이다.”Jehovah hates the proud, and they will never escape punishment
‭‭6 “자비와 진리로 죄가 용서되고 여호와를 두려워함으로 악에서 떠나게 된다.”Through mercy and truth, sins are forgiven, and through the fear of Jehovah, we turn away from evil
‭‭7 “사람이 여호와를 기쁘시게 하면 여호와께서는 그 사람의 원수까지도 그와 화목하게 지내게 하신다.”When a man pleases Jehovah, Jehovah causes even his enemies to be at peace with him
‭‭8 “정직하게 번 적은 수입이 부정하게 번 많은 수입보다 낫다.”A small income earned honestly is better than a large income earned dishonestly
‭‭9 “사람이 마음으로 자기 길을 계획할지라도 그 걸음을 인도하시는 분은 여호와이시다.”A man's heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps
‭‭10 “하나님의 말씀이 왕의 입술에 있으면 왕의 재판이 잘못되지 않을 것이다.”If the word of God is on the king's lips, the king's judgment will not be wrong
‭‭11 “사람은 모든 상거래에 있어서 정직해야 한다. 이것이 여호와께서 세우신 원칙이다.”People must be honest in all business transactions. This is the principle established by Jehovah
‭‭12 “왕은 악을 허용해서는 안 된다. 이것은 나라가 의로써 굳게 세워지기 때문이다.”A king must not tolerate evil. For the kingdom is established in righteousness
‭‭13 “왕은 진실한 말을 듣고 싶어하며 정직하게 말하는 자를 사랑한다.”The king wants to hear the truth and loves those who speak honestly
‭‭14 “왕이 화가 나면 죽음의 사자처럼 무서워도 지혜로운 사람은 그 노여움을 누그러지게 한다.”When a king is angry, he is as fearful as the angel of death, but a wise man softens his anger
‭‭15 “왕의 표정에 생명이 달렸으니 그의 은총은 봄에 비를 내리는 구름과 같다.”Life depends on the king's countenance; his grace is like a cloud that brings rain in spring
‭‭16 “지혜를 얻는 것이 금을 얻는 것보다 낫고 지식을 얻는 것이 은을 얻는 것보다 낫다.”To gain wisdom is better than gold, and to gain knowledge is better than silver
‭‭17 “정직한 사람의 길은 악을 피하므로 그 길을 걷는 자가 안전하다.”The path of the honest man avoids evil, so those who walk it are safe
‭‭18 “교만하면 패망하고 거만하면 넘어진다.”If you are arrogant you will fall, if you are arrogant you will fall
‭‭19 “겸손한 마음으로 가난한 자와 함께 있는 것이 교만한 자와 함께 약탈물을 나누는 것보다 낫다.”It is better to be humble with the poor than to share the spoil with the proud
‭‭20 “지혜롭게 말씀을 따라 사는 사람이 좋은 것을 얻을 것이며 여호와를 신뢰하는 사람이 복을 받을 것이다.”Those who follow the Word wisely will find good things, and those who trust in the Lord will be blessed
‭‭21 “마음이 지혜로운 자는 총명하다는 말을 듣고 호감을 주는 말은 설득력을 크게 한다.”It is said that a person with a wise heart is intelligent, and words that are likable are very persuasive
‭‭22 “지혜로운 사람에게는 지혜가 생명의 샘과 같아도 미련한 사람에게는 어리석음이 징벌이 된다.”Wisdom is like a fountain of life to a wise person, but foolishness is a punishment to a fool
‭‭23 “지혜로운 사람의 말은 언제나 신중성이 있고 설득력이 있다.”A wise person's words are always prudent and persuasive
‭‭24 “친절한 말은 꿀송이와 같아서 마음을 흐뭇하게 하고 건강에도 좋다.”Kind words are like honeycombs, they make your heart happy and are good for your health
‭‭25 “어떤 길은 사람이 보기에 바른 것 같지만 결국은 죽음에 이르고 만다.”Some paths may seem right to people, but they ultimately lead to death
‭‭26 “노동하는 사람은 식욕이 왕성하여 배고픔을 채우려고 열심히 일한다.”Working people have a big appetite and work hard to satisfy their hunger
‭‭27 “불량배는 언제나 남을 해칠 일만 생각하니 그의 말은 맹렬히 타는 불과 같다”A bully is always thinking about harming others, and his words are like a burning fire
‭‭28 “못돼먹은 자는 다툼을 일으키고 수다쟁이는 친한 친구를 갈라 놓는다.”A mean person causes strife, and a gossip separates close friends
‭‭29 “난폭한 자는 자기 이웃을 꾀어 좋지 못한 길로 인도한다.”A violent person entices his neighbors and leads them down a bad path
‭‭30 “능청맞게 눈짓하는 자는 못된 일을 꾀하고 입술을 굳게 다무는 자는 악을 불러일으킨다.”He who winks slyly plots evil deeds, and he who purses his lips invites evil
‭‭31 “백발은 영광의 면류관이며 의로운 삶에서 얻어지는 것이다.”Gray hair is a crown of glory and comes from a righteous life
‭‭32 “좀처럼 화를 내지 않는 사람이 용사보다 낫고 자기를 다스릴 줄 아는 자가 도시를 정복하는 자보다 낫다.”A man who rarely gets angry is better than a warrior, and a man who knows how to rule himself is better than a man who conquers a city
‭‭33 “제비를 뽑는 일은 사람이 하지만 그 일을 결정하는 분은 여호와이시다.”Man casts lots, but it is Jehovah who decides
