1 “이것은 여호와께서 브두엘의 아들 요엘에게 주신 말씀이다.”This is the word of the LORD to Joel son of Bethuel
‭‭2 “늙은 사람들아, 들어라. 이 땅에 사는 모든 사람들아, 귀를 기울여라. 너희 때와 너희 조상의 때에 이런 일이 있었느냐?”Listen, you old men; give ear, all you who live on the earth. Was this ever the case in your days or in the days of your fathers?
‭‭3 “너희는 이 일을 너희 자녀들에게 말하고 너희 자녀들은 또 그들의 자녀들에게, 그들의 자녀들은 그 다음 세대에 말하게 하라.”Tell these things to your children, and let your children tell them to their children, and their children to the next generation
‭‭4 “팥중이가 남긴 것을 메뚜기떼가 먹고 메뚜기떼가 남긴 것을 느치가 먹고 느치가 남긴 것을 황충이 먹었다.”What the locusts left behind was eaten by locusts, and what the locusts left behind was eaten by maggots, and what the maggots left behind was eaten by yellow bugs
‭‭5 “술에 취한 자들아, 너희는 깨어서 울어라. 포도주를 마시는 자들아, 너희는 통곡하라. 포도주를 만들 포도가 다 못 쓰게 되었다.”Awake, you who are drunk, and weep; wail, you who drink wine, for the grapes for the wine are all spoiled
‭‭6 “큰 메뚜기떼가 우리 땅을 습격하였으니 그것들은 강하고 무수히 많으며 그 이는 사자의 이 같고 그 어금니는 암사자의 어금니와 같다.”Great swarms of locusts have invaded our land; they are strong and numerous, their teeth are like those of lions, and their fangs are like those of a lioness
‭‭7 “그것들이 우리 포도나무를 죽이고 우리 무화과나무를 씹어 껍질을 벗겨 버렸으므로 그 가지가 하얗게 되고 말았다.”They have killed our vines and chewed our fig trees, so that their branches have turned white
‭‭8 “너희는 처녀가 삼베 옷을 입고 약혼자의 죽음을 슬퍼하듯이 통곡하여라.”You shall mourn as a virgin mourns over her fiancé, dressed in sackcloth
‭‭9 “곡식으로 드리는 소제와 술로 드리는 전제가 성전에서 끊어졌으므로 여호와 앞에서 섬기는 제사장이 슬퍼하고 있다.”The priests who serve before the LORD are mourning because the grain offering and the drink offering have been cut off from the temple
‭‭10 “밭이 못 쓰게 되고 땅이 메말라서 곡식이 다 죽고 포도주와 기름이 떨어졌다.”The fields are barren and the land is dry, the crops are dying, and the wine and oil are gone
‭‭11 “농부들아, 슬퍼하여라. 포도를 재배하는 자들아, 통곡하여라. 밀과 보리와 밭의 농작물이 다 없어지고 말았다.”Wail, you farmers, and wail, you vinedressers, for the wheat and the barley and the crops of the field are all gone
‭‭12 “포도나무와 무화과나무가 말랐고 석류나무와 종려나무와 사과나무와 밭의 모든 나무들이 다 시들어 버렸으므로 사람들의 즐거움이 사라지고 말았다.”The vine and the fig tree have dried up, the pomegranate tree, the palm tree, the apple tree and all the trees of the field have withered, and the joy of the people has disappeared
‭‭13 “제사장들아, 너희는 굵은 삼베 옷을 입고 슬피 울어라. 제단 앞에서 섬기는 자들아, 너희는 통곡하여라. 내 하나님을 섬기는 자들아, 너희는 와서 굵은 삼베 옷을 입고 밤을 새워라. 너희 하나님께 소제를 드릴 곡식과 전제를 드릴 포도주가 없어졌다.”Put on sackcloth, you priests, and mourn. Lament, you who serve at the altar. Come, spend the night in sackcloth, you who serve my God. There is no grain for your God's grain offerings, and no wine for his drink offerings
‭‭14 “너희는 특별히 금식일을 정하고 거룩한 모임을 선포하여 장로들과 이 땅 모든 백성을 너희 하나님 여호와의 성전으로 모으고 여호와께 부르짖어라.”You shall set apart a day of fasting and proclaim a holy convocation. Gather the elders and all the people of the land to the house of the LORD your God and cry out to the LORD
‭‭15 “아, 무서운 날이여! 여호와의 날이 가까웠으니 전능자가 보내실 파멸의 날이다.”Oh, how terrible the day is! The day of the Lord is near, the day of destruction that the Almighty will send
‭‭16 “우리 눈 앞에서 양식이 없어지고 우리 하나님의 성전에서 기쁨과 즐거움이 사라지지 않았느냐?”Has not food disappeared before our eyes, and joy and gladness disappeared from the house of our God?
‭‭17 “씨가 땅 속에서 썩었고 창고가 텅텅 비었으며 곳간이 무너졌으니 이것은 곡식이 시들어 버렸기 때문이다.”The seed has rotted in the ground, the storehouses are empty, the granaries have collapsed, because the grain has withered
‭‭18 “꼴이 없으므로 짐승이 탄식하고 소떼가 이리저리 방황하며 양떼도 고통스러워하는구나.”
‭‭19 “여호와여, 불이 목초지의 풀을 삼키고 불꽃이 들의 모든 나무를 태워 버렸습니다. 그래서 내가 주께 부르짖습니다.”
‭‭20 “시냇물이 다 마르고 불이 들의 풀을 삼켜 버렸으므로 들짐승까지 주께 부르짖고 있습니다.”
‭‭
