[현대인성경 구약 창세기 37장] 야곱의 아들 요셉을 형제들이 시기하여 이집트에 팔다 : [Modern Human Bible, Old Testament, Genesis 37] The brothers sold Joseph son of Jacob to Egypt because of jealousy

1. 야곱은 자기 아버지가 살던 가나안 땅에서 계속 살았다

(Jacob continued to live in the land of Canaan, where his father lived)

2. 다음은 그의 가족에 대한 이야기이다: 17세의 손년 요셉은 자기 아버지의 첨 빌하와 실바가 낳은 아들들과 함께 양을 치면서 형들의 잘못을 아버지에게 일일이 일러바쳤다

(Here's the story of his family: 17-year-old grandson Joseph, with his father's first-born sons Bilhah and Zilpah, tended the sheep and told his father the faults of his brothers)

3. 야곱은 노년에 요셉을 얻었으므로 다른 아들보다 그를 특별히 사랑하여 화려하게 장식한 긴 겉옷을 만들어 입혔다

(Jacob had Joseph in his old age, and he loved him more than any other son, and he made and put on him a long ornate robe)

4. 그러자 그의 형들은 아버지가 자기들보다 요셉을 더 사랑하는 것을 보고 그를 미워하여 그에게 말도 잘하지 않았다

(And when his brothers saw that their father loved Joseph more than they did, they hated him and did not speak well to him)

5. 한번은 요셉이 꿈을 꾸고 형들에게 그 꿈 이야기를 하자 그들은 그를 더욱 미워하였다

(Once Joseph had a dream and told his brothers about it, they hated him even more)

6. 요셉이 그들에게 "내 꿈 이야기를 들어 보십시오(Joseph said to them, "Listen to my dream)

7. 우리가 들에서 곡식단을 묶고 있는데 갑자기 내 단이 일어서고 형님들의 단은 내 단을 둘러서서 절하였습니다" 하자

(We were tying the sheaf in the field, and suddenly my sheaf stood up, and the brothers' sheaf surrounded my sheaf and bowed down")

8. 요셉은 다시 꿈을 꾸고 형들에게 "내가 또 다른 꿈을 꾸었는데 꿈에 보니 해와 달과 열한 개의 별이 나에게 절하였습니다" 하고

(Joseph had another dream and said to his brothers, "I had another dream, and in my dream I saw the sun, the moon, and eleven stars bowing down to me")

9. 요셉은 다시 꿈을 꾸고 형들에게 "내가 또 다른 꿈을 꾸었는데 꿈에 보니 

(Joseph had another dream and told his brothers, "I had another dream, and I saw)

10. 또 그 꿈이야기를 자기 아버지에게도  하였다. 그러자 아버지는 "네가 꾸었다는 그 꿈이 도대체 무엇이냐? 나와 네 어머니와 네 형들이 정말 네 앞에 가서 땅에 엎드려 절하겠느냐" 하고 그를 꾸짖었다

(He also shared the dream with his father. Then the father rebuked him, saying, "What is the dream that you have dreamed? Will you and your mother and your brothers really go down before you and bow down to the ground?")

11. 요셉의 형들은 그를 시기하였으나 그의 아버지는 그 말을 마음에 새겨 두었다

(Joseph's brothers were jealous of him, but his father took those words to heart)

12. 요셉의 형들이 세겜에 가서 양을 치고 있을 때

(When Joseph's brothers went to Shechem and tended the sheep)

13. 야곱이 요셉에게 말하였다. "네 형들이 세겜에서 양을 치고 있지 않느냐? 네가 형들에게 좀 다녀와야겠다" 요셉이 아버지에게 "예, 다녀오겠습니다" 하고 대답하자

(Jacob said to Joseph. "Aren't your brothers tending the sheep in Shechem? You should go visit them." Joseph answered his father, "Yes, I will go")

14. 야곱이 그에게 "가서 네 형들과 양 떼가 잘 있는지 보고 오너라" 하며 헤브론 골짜기에서 그를 보냈다. 요셉이 세겜에 도착하여

(Jacob said to him, "Go and see if your brothers and the flock are well. Come and see." And he sent him from the Valley of Hebron. Joseph arrived at Shechem)

15. 들에서 방황하고 있는데 어떤 사람이 그를 보고 물었다. "네가 무엇을 찾고 있느냐?"

(As he was wandering in the fields, a man saw him and asked him. "What are you looking for?")

16. "내 형들을 찾고 있습니다. 죄송하지만 그들이 양치는 곳을 말씀해 주실 수 있겠습니까?"

("I'm looking for my brothers. I'm sorry, but can you tell me where they shepherd?")

17. "그들은 이 곳을 떠났다. 나는 그들이 '도단으로 가자' 고 하는 소리를 들었다" 그래서 요셉은 형들을 뒤쫓아가 도단에서 그들을 찾았다

("They have left this place. I heard them say, 'Let's go to Dothan.'" So Joseph went after his brothers and found them in Dothan)

18. 그러나 그들은 멀리 요셉이 오는 것을 보고 그가 가까이 오기 전에 그를 죽일 음모를 꾸미며

(But when they saw Joseph coming from afar, they plotted to kill him before he came near)

19. "저기 꿈꾸는 자가 오고 있다("The dreamer is coming)

20. 자, 그를 죽여 구덩이에 던져 넣고 맹수가 잡아먹었다고 하자. 그리고 그 꿈이 어떻게 되는지 한번 보자" 하고 서로 말하였다

(Now, let's say that you kill him and throw him into a pit and that a beast ate it. And let's see how that dream turns out")

21. 그때 르우벤이 이 말을 듣고 요셉을 구하려고 이렇게 말하였다 "우리가 그를 죽이지는 말자

(Then Reuben heard this and tried to save Joseph, saying, "Let us not kill him)

22. 그를 이 구덩이에 던져 넣고 그에게 손은 대지 말아라" 르우벤이 이렇게 말한 것은 요셉을 그들에게서 구출하여 그를 아버지에게 돌려보내기 위해서였다

(Throw him into this pit and do not touch him." Reuben said this to rescue Joseph from them and return him to his father)

23. 요셉이 형들에게 이르자 그들은 화려하게 장식한 요셉의 긴 겉옷을 벗기고

(When Joseph came to his brothers, they took off Joseph's ornate robe)

24. 그를 구덩이에 던져 넣었는데 그 구덩이는 물이 없고 텅 비어 있었다

(I threw him into a pit, and the pit had no water and was empty)

25. 그들이 앉아서 음식을 먹다가 눈을 들어 보니 이스마엘족의 대상들이 길르앗에서 오고 있었다. 그들은 낙타에 향품과 유향과 몰약을 싣고 이집트로 내려가는 중이었다

(As they sat down to eat, they looked up and saw caravans of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead. They were on their way down to Egypt, loaded with spices, frankincense, and myrrh on camels)

26. 이때 유다가 자기 형제들에게 "우리가 우리 동생을 죽이고 그 사실을 숨긴들 무슨 유익이 있겠느냐?

(Then Judas said to his brothers, "What good is it if we kill our brother and hide it?)

27. 자, 그를 이스마을 사람들에게 팔아넘기고 그에게 손을 대지 말자. 그도 우리와 살과 피를 나눈 우리의 형제이다" 하자 그의 형제들이 그의 말에 동의하였다

(Come on, let's sell him to the people of Isu and don't touch him. He is also our brother who shares flesh and blood with us." And his brothers agreed with him)

28. 미디안 상인들이 지나갈 때 그들은 요셉을 구덩이에서 끌어올려 은화 20개를 받고 그를 이스마엘 사람들에게 팔았다. 그러자 그 대상들은 요셉을 데리고 이집트로 갔다

(As the Midianite merchants passed, they pulled Joseph out of the pit and sold him to the Ishmaelites for 20 pieces of silver. Then the caravans took Joseph and went to Egypt)

29. 르우벤이 그 구덩이에 돌아와 보니 거기에 요셉이 없었다. 그래서 그는 자기 옷을 찢고

(When Reuben returned to the pit, Joseph was not there. So he tore his clothes)

30. 자기 형제들에게 돌아와 "애가 없어지고 말았다! 이제 나는 어디로 가야 한단 말이냐?" 하고 슬퍼하였다

(Returning to his brothers, he said, "The child is gone! Where am I supposed to go now?" and was sad)

31. 그들은 염소를 죽이고 요셉의 옷을 가져다가 그 피에 적셔

(They killed the goat and took Joseph's clothes and soaked them in the blood)

32. 그것을 아버지에게 갖다 드리며 "우리가 이것을 주었는데 요셉의 옷인지 보십시오" 하였다

(He brought it to his father and said, "See if it is Joseph's garment, which we have given you")

33. 그러자 그는 그것을 알아보고 "이것은 내 아들의 옷이다. 맹수가 그를 잡아먹었구나. 내 아들 요셉은 찢겨 죽은 것이 틀림없다" 하고 통곡하며

(Then he recognized it and wept, saying, "This is my son's garment. A wild beast has eaten him. My son Joseph must have been torn to death")

34. 자기 옷을 찢고 허리에 굵은 삼베를 두르고 오랫동안 아들의 죽음을 슬퍼하였다

(He tore his clothes, put sackcloth around his waist, and mourned the death of his son for a long time)

35. 그의 모든 자녀들이 그를 위로하였으나 아무 소용이 없었다. 그는 "내가 슬퍼하다가 저 세상에 있는 내 아들에게 가겠다" 하고 계속 아들의 죽음을 슬퍼하며 울었다

(All his children comforted him, but to no avail. He continued to weep over his son's death, saying, "I will go to my son who is in another world in sorrow")

36. 한편 미디안 사람들은 이집트에서 바로의 신하이며 경호대장인 보디발에게 요셉을 팔았다

(Meanwhile, the Midianites sold Joseph in Egypt to Potiphar, a servant of Pharaoh and captain of the bodyguard)
