[현대인성경 구약 창세기 38장] 유다가 과부가 된 며느리 다말과 동침 후 쌍둥이를 배게 하다 : [Modern Human Bible, Old Testament, Genesis 38] Judas conceived twins after sleeping with his widowed daughter-in-law Tamar

1. 그 후에 유다는 형제들을 떠나 아둘람 사람 히라에게 가서 그와 함께 머물러 있었다

(After that Judah left his brothers and went to Hira the Adullamite and stayed with him)

2. 거기서 유다는 가나안 사람 수아의 딸을 만나 그녀와 결혼하였다

(There Judah met the daughter of Shua, a Canaanite, and married her)

3. 그녀가 임신하여 아들을 낳자 유다는 그 이름을 엘이라고 지었다

(When she became pregnant and gave birth to a son, Judah named him Er)

4. 그녀는 다시 임신하여 아들을 낳고 그 이름을 오난이라고 하였으며

(She conceived again, gave birth to a son, and named him Onan)

5. 또 다른 아들을 낳아 그 이름을 셀라라고 하였다. 그녀가 셀라를 낳을 때 유다는 거십에 있었다

(He gave birth to another son and named him Shelah. Judah was in Gesip when she gave birth to Shelah)

‘속이는’, ‘실망시키는’이란 뜻. 야곱의 4남인 유다 부부가 세 아들을 낳는 동안 거처한 성읍(창 38:5). 헤브론 북방에 있는 ‘악십’과 동일한 곳으로 본다.
It means 'to deceive' or 'to disappoint'. The city where Judah and his wife, Jacob's 4th son, lived while they had three sons (Gen. 38:5). It is considered to be the same place as Akshib in the north of Hebron.

악십

6.  유다는 장남 엘을 다말이라는 여자와 결혼 시켰는데

(Judah married his eldest son Er to a woman named Tamar)

7. 엘의 행위가 여호와께서 보시기에 악하므로 여호와께서 그를 죽이셨다

(The LORD killed El because his deeds were evil in the eyes of the LORD)

8. 그래서 유다는 오난에게 "네 형수와 잠자리를 같이하여 네 형을 위해 자식을 낳아 주는 시동생의 의무를 다하라" 하였다

(So Judah said to Onan, "Sleep with your brother-in-law, and fulfill your brother-in-law's duty to bear children for your brother")

9. 그러나 오난은 아이를 낳아도 자기 자식이 되지 못할 것을 알고 자식을 낳아 주지 않기 위해서 형수와 관계를 가질 때마다 잠자리에 사정하였다

(However, Onan knew that even if she had children, she would not be able to have children, so she ejaculated in bed every time she had sex with her sister-in-law in order not to have children)

10. 그가 행한 일이 여호와께서 보시기에 악하므로 여호와께서는 그도 죽이셨다

(What he had done was evil in the eyes of the Lord, so the Lord killed him as well)

11. 이때 유다는 며느리 다말에게 "네 친정 집으로 가서 내 아들 셀라가 성장할 때까지 그대로 지내라" 하였다. 그가 이렇게 말한 것은 셀라도 그 형들처럼 죽을지 모른다는 두려움 때문이었다. 그래서 다말은 친정에 가서 살았다

(At this time, Judah said to his daughter-in-law Tamar, "Go to your father's house and stay there until my son Shelah grows up." He said this out of fear that Selah might die like his brothers. So Tamar went to live with her parents)

12. 얼마 후에 수아의 딸인 유다의 아내가 죽었다. 유다는 어느 정도 마음의 위안을 되찾은 다음에 친구인 아둘람 사람 히라와 함께 자기 양 떼의 털 깎는 자들이 있는 딤나로 올라갔다

(Shortly thereafter, the wife of Judas, Shua's daughter, died. After some reassurance had been restored, Judah and his friend Hira the Adullamite went up to Timnah, where the shearers of his flock were)

13. 이때 다말은 자기 시아버지가 양털을 깎으려고 딤나로 올라오고 있다는 말을 듣게 되었다

(It was at this time that Tamar heard that her father-in-law was coming up to Timnah to shear the sheep)

14. 그래서 그녀는 과부의 옷을 벗고 면사포로 얼굴을 가린 채 딤나로 가는 길 옆 에나임 입구에 앉아 있었다. 이것은 셀라가 성장했는데도 그와 결혼시켜 주지 않았기 때문이었다

(So she took off her widow's clothes and, covering her face with a veil, sat at the entrance to Enaim by the way to Timnah. This was because Shelah, even though she had grown up, did not marry him)

15. 그녀가 얼굴을 가렸으므로 유다는 그녀를 창녀로 생각하였다

(Because she covered her face, Judas considered her a whore)

16. 유다는 그녀가 자기 며느리인 줄도 모르고 길 옆에 앉아 있는 그녀에게 다가가서 말하였다. "너와 쉬었다 가겠다" "얼마나 주시겠습니까?"

(Judas, unaware that she was his daughter-in-law, approached her sitting by the road and said, "I'll go rest with you" "How much would you like?")

17. "염소 새끼 한 마리를 보내 주겠다" "좋습니다. 그 염소를 보낼 때까지 담보물을 잡히시겠습니까?"

("I will send you a young goat." "Okay. Do you want to take the pledge until you send the goat?")

18. "담보물로 무엇을 주면 되겠느냐?" "끈 달린 당신의 그 도장과 당신이 들고 있는 그 지팡이를 나에게 주십시오" 그래서 유다는 그것들을 주고 그녀와 함께 잠자리에 들었으며 그녀는 그를 통해서 임신하게 되었다

(“What can I give you as collateral?” “Give me the seal that you are holding, and the staff that you are holding.” So Judas gave them to her and went to bed with her, and she became pregnant through him)

19. 그러고서 다말은 집으로 가서 면사포를 벗고 과부의 옷을 다시 입었다

(Then Tamar went home, took off the veil, and put on the widow's clothes again)

20. 유다는 자기 친구인 아둘람 사람 히라에게 부탁하여 염소 새끼를 그 여자에게 보내고 그가 담보물로 맡긴 물을 찾아오라고 하였다. 그러나 그는 그 여자를 찾지 못하였다

(Judas asked his friend Hira the Adullamite to send a young goat to the woman and to retrieve the water he had entrusted to her as a pledge. But he did not find the woman)

21. 그가 에나임에 있는 사람들에게 "길가에 있던 창녀가 어디 있습니까?" 하고 묻자 그들이 "이곳에는 창녀가 없습니다" 하고 대답하였다

(He said to those in Enaim, "Where is the prostitute by the way?" ' And they answered, "There are no prostitutes here")

22. 그래서 그는 유다에게 돌아가서 말하였다. "그녀를 찾지 못했네. 그곳 사람들도 거기에는 창녀가 없다고 하더군"

(So he went back to Judas and said, "I couldn't find her. They said there were no prostitutes there")

23. "그 여자가 그 물건을 가지도록 내버려 두게. 그렇지 않으면 우리가 웃음거리가 되고 말겠네. 어쨌든 나는 그 여자에게 염소 새끼를 보냈으나 자네가 그녀를 찾지 못했을 뿐이야"

("Leave her with the stuff. Otherwise we'll be laughing at her. Anyway, I sent her a goat, but you just didn't find her")

24. 석 달쯤 후에 어떤 사람이 유다에게 "당신의 며느리 다말이 창녀 짓을 하여 임신하였소" 하자 유다가 "그 여자를 끌어내어 불애 태워 죽이시오" 하였다

(About three months later, a man said to Judah, "Your daughter-in-law Tamar has become pregnant through a whore." Judah said, "Bring her out and burn her to death")

25. 그녀는 끌려나가면서 자기 시아버지에게 이런 전갈을 보냈다. "나는 이 물건 임자 때문에 임신하게 되었습니다. 이 끈 달린 도장과 지팡이가 누구의 것인지 한번 보십시오"

(As she was dragged out, she sent this message to her father-in-law. "I became pregnant because of the owner of this thing. Take a look at whose seal and staff this is")

26. 유다는 그것들을 알아보고 "그녀가 나보다 옳다. 내가 그녀를 내 아들 셀라에게 주지 않았다" 하고 다시는 그녀와 잠자리를 같이하지 않았다

(Judas recognized them and said, "She is more right than me. I have not given her to my son Shelah." And he never slept with her again)

27. 그녀가 해산할 때가 되었을 때 보니 쌍둥이를 배었는데

(When it came time for her to give birth, it turned out she was pregnant with twins)

28. 한 아이가 먼저 손 하나를 불쑥 내밀었다. 그래서 산파가 그 손을 붙잡아 손목에 붉은 실을 잡아매고 "이 아이가 먼저 나왔다" 하고 말하였다

(One of the first children suddenly held out a hand. So the midwife took her hand, tied a red thread around her wrist, and said, "This child came first")

29. 그러나 그가 도로 손을 안으로 들이고 다른 아이가 나왔다. 그때 산파가 "네가 어째서 비집고 나오느냐?" 하고 소리쳤다. 그래서 그 이름을 '베레스'라고 불렀다

(But he put his hand back inside and another child came out. Then the midwife said, "Why are you squeezing out?" and shouted. So he called it 'Perez')

30. 그러고서 손목에 붉은 실을 맨 아이가 나오자 그 이름을 '세라'라고 불렀다

(Then, when a child with a red thread on his wrist appeared, he called him 'Sera')

 

* 요셉을 팔자고 먼저 얘기한 유다의 이후의 삶에는 처참하기 그지 없는 낙오된 삶이 자식과 며느리들한테까지 뻗치는 걸 볼 수 있다. 하나님은 악인의 잘못을 그냥 두고 보지 않으시며, 반드시 심판하시는 분이시다

(In the life of Judas, who first talked about selling Joseph, we can see that a life of disastrous disappointment extends to his children and daughters-in-law. God does not overlook the wrongdoing of the wicked, He is the one who always judges)
