1. 에돔이라고도 하는 에서와 그 후손에 대한 이야기는 이렇다

(This is the story of Esau, also called Edom, and his descendants)

2. 에서는 가나안 여자들과 결혼하였다. 그의 아내는 헷 사람 엘론의 딸 아다와 히위 사람 시브온의 손녀이며 아나의 딸인 오홀리바마와

(Esau married Canaanite women. His wives were Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Oholibamah the daughter of Ana, the granddaughter of Zibeon the Hivite)

3. 이스마엘의 딸이며 느바욧의 누이인 바스맛이었다

(It was Basmath, the daughter of Ishmael and the sister of Nebaioth)

4. 아다는 엘리바스를 낳았고 바스맛은 르우엘을,

(Adah fathered Eliphaz, Basmath fathered Reuel,)

5. 오홀리바마는 여우스와 알람과 고라를 낳았다. 이들은 다 가나안 땅에서 태어난 에서의 아들들이었다

(Oholibama gave birth to Fox, Alam, and Korah. These were all the sons of Esau, who were born in the land of Canaan)

6. 에서는 처자들과 집안의 모든 사람들과 함께 자기 짐승과 가나안  땅에서 얻은 재산을 전부 정리하여 동생 야곱을 떠나 다른 곳으로 갔다

(Esau, with his wife and wives and all the people in the household, put his beasts and all the possessions in the land of Canaan, and left his brother Jacob and went to another place)

7. 그가 떠난 것은 그 두 사람의 소유가 너무 많아 그들의 짐승을 함께 기르기에는 그 땅이 부족하였기 때문이다

(He left because the two men had too much land, and the land was not enough to keep their animals together)

8. 그래서 에돔이라는 에서는 세일의 산간 지역에서 살게 되었다

(So Esau, called Edom, lived in the mountainous region of Seir)

9. 세일산 일대에 사는 에돔족의 조상이 된 에서의 후손은 이렇다

(These are the descendants of Esau, who became the ancestors of the Edomites living in the area of ​​Mount Seir)

10-13. 에서의 아내 아다는 엘리바스를 낳았고 엘리바스는 데만, 오말, 스보, 가담, 그나스를 낳았으며 그의 첩 딤나는 아말렉을 낳았다. 에서의 아내 바스맛은 르우엘을 낳았고 르우엘은 나핫, 세라, 삼마, 미사를 낳았다

(Esau's wife Adah fathered Eliphaz; Eliphaz fathered Teman, Omar, Zebo, Gadam, and Kenaz; and his concubine Timnah fathered Amalek. Esau's wife Basmath bore Reuel, and Reuel bore Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Misa)

14. 그리고 시브온의 손녀이며 아나의 딸인 에서의 다른 아내 오홀리바마는 여우스와 얄람과 고라를 낳았다

(And Oholibamah, the other wife of Esau, the granddaughter of Zibeon and daughter of Ana, bore Jeux, Jalam, and Korah)

15. 에서의 자손 가운데 족장들은 다음과 같다: 에서의 장남 엘리바스의 아들인 데만, 오말, 스보, 그나스,

(Among the descendants of Esau, the chieftains were: Teman, Omar, Zebo, Kenaz, the sons of Eliphaz the eldest son of Esau;)

16. 고라, 가담, 아말렉은 에돔 땅의 엘리바스에게서 나온 족장들이며 이들은 에서의 아내 아다의 손자들이었다

(Korah, Gadam, and Amalek were the chiefs from Elephaz in the land of Edom, and these were the grandsons of Esau's wife Adah)

17. 에서는 아들 르우엘의 아들인 나핫, 세라, 삼마, 미사는 에돔 땅의 르우엘에게서 나온 족장들이며 이들은 에서의 아내 바스맛의 손자들이었다

(The sons of Esau's son Reuel, Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Misa, were the chieftains of Reuel in the land of Edom. These were the grandsons of Esau's wife Basmath)

18. 에서의 아내 오홀리바마의 아들은 여우스, 알람, 고라는 아나의 딸이며 에서의 아내인 오홀리바마에게서 나온 족장들이다

(The sons of Oholibamah, Esau's wife, Jeus, Alam, and Korah are the daughters of Ana and the chieftains of Esau's wife Oholibamah)

19. 이상은 에돔이라고 하는 에서의 자손들로서 족장이 된 사람들이다

(These are the descendants of Esau, called Edom, who became patriarchs)

20. 그 땅의 원주민인 호리족 세일의 아들은 로단, 소발, 시브온, 아나,

(The sons of Seir the Horite, the natives of the land, were Rodan, Zophar, Zibeon, Anah,)

21. 디손, 에셀, 디산인데 이들은 에돔 땅에 있는 세일의 자손 중에서 호리족의 족장들이다

(Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan; these are the chiefs of the Horites from the descendants of Seir in the land of Edom)

22. 그리고 로단의 아들은 호리와 헤맘이고 로단의 누이는 딤나이며

(And Rodan's sons were Hori and Hemam, and Rodan's sister was Timnah)

23. 소발의 아들은 알완, 마나핫, 에발, 스보, 오남이다

(The sons of Zophar were Alwan, Manahath, Ebal, Zebo, and Onam)

24. 시브온의 아들은 아야와 아나이며 이 아나는 자기 아버지의 나귀를 먹이다가 광야에서 온천을 발견한 자이다

(The sons of Zibeon are Aiah and Ana, who found a hot spring in the wilderness while feeding her father's donkey)

25. 그리고 아나의 자손은 아들 디손과 딸 오홀리바이며

(And the children of Ana: Dishon the son and Oholibah the daughter)

26. 디손의 아들은 헴단, 에스반, 이드란, 그란이고

(The sons of Dishon were Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Gran)

27. 에셀의 아들은 빌한, 사아완, 아간이며(The sons of Ezer were Bilhan, Sawan, and Achan)

28. 디산의 아들은 우스와 아란이다(The sons of Dishan were Uz and Aran)

29. 이상과 같이 호리족의 족장인 로단, 소발, 시브온, 아나

(As above, the chiefs of the Horites were Rodan, Zophar, Zibon, and Ana)

30. 디손, 에셀, 디산은 세일 당에서 자기들의 집안을 따라 족장이 된 사람들이다

(Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan were the chieftains of their families in Seir)

31. 이스라엘에 왕이 있기 전에 에돔 땅을 다스린 왕들을 그 순서대로 열거하면 다음과 같다

(The kings who ruled the land of Edom before there was a king in Israel are listed in order as follows)

32. 딘하바 사람인 브올의 아들 벨라,(Bela son of Beor the Dinhabah)

33. 보스라 사람인 세라의 아들 요밥,(Jobab son of Zerah the Bozrahite)

34. 데만 지방 출신의 후삼,(Hussam from Teman,)

35. 모압 들에서 미디안 족을 친 아윗 출신 브닷의 아들 하닷,

(Hadad the son of Bethad from Abid, who struck the Midianites in the field of Moab)

36. 마스레가 출신 삼라,(Samra from Masrega,)

37. 강변에 위치한 르호봇 출신 사울,(Saul from Rehoboth, who was by the river,)

38. 악볼의 아들인 바알-하난,(Baal-hanan son of Akbor,)

39. 그리고 바우 출신 하닷이었는데 그의 아내는 메사합의 손녀이며 마드렛의 딸인 므헤다벨이었다

(And Hadad was from Bau, whose wife was Mehetabhel, the granddaughter of Meshahab and the daughter of Madred)

40-43. 에돔족의 조상은 에서이며  이들 부족들이 사는 지방의 이름을 딴 에돔의 족장들은 딤나, 알와, 여뎃, 오홀리바마, 엘라, 비논, 그나스, 데만, 밉살, 막디엘, 그리오 이람이었다

(The ancestors of the Edomites were Esau, and the chieftains of Edom were Timnah, Alwa, Jeded, Oholibamah, Elah, Binon, Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, Magdiel, and Cherioram)
