1 “내 아들아, 나의 가르침을 잊지 말고 내 명령을 정성껏 지켜라.”My son, do not forget my teachings and faithfully follow my commands
‭‭2 “그러면 네가 장수하고 평안을 누릴 것이다.”Then you will live long and enjoy peace
‭‭3 “너는 사랑과 성실이 너를 떠나지 않게 하며 그것을 네 목에 매고 네 마음에 새겨라.”Let love and faithfulness never leave you; tie them around your neck and write them on your heart
‭‭4 “그러면 네가 하나님과 사람 앞에서 사랑과 신망을 얻을 것이다.”Then you will find love and respect before God and man
‭‭5 “너는 마음을 다하여 여호와를 신뢰하고 네 지식을 의지하지 말아라.“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own knowledge
‭‭6 “너는 모든 일에 여호와를 인정하라. 그러면 그가 너에게 바른 길을 보이실 것이다.”Acknowledge the LORD in all your ways. Then he will show you the right path
‭‭7 “스스로 지혜롭다고 생각하지 말아라. 너는 여호와를 두려워하고 악을 피하라.”Do not think of yourself as wise. Fear the LORD and flee evil
‭‭8 “이것이 너에게 좋은 약이 되어 너의 몸과 마음을 건강하게 할 것이다.”This will be good medicine for you and keep your body and mind healthy
‭‭9 “네 재산과 네 모든 농산물의 첫열매로 여호와를 공경하라.”Honor the LORD with your possessions and with the firstfruits of all your produce
‭‭10 “그러면 네 창고가 가득 차고 포도주통에 새 포도주가 넘칠 것이다.”Then your barns will be full and your vats will overflow with new wine
‭‭11 “내 아들아, 여호와의 징계를 가볍게 여기지 말며 그의 꾸지람을 언짢게 생각하지 말아라.”My son, do not take lightly the chastisement of the Lord, and do not be displeased with his rebuke
‭‭12 “아버지가 자식이 잘되라고 꾸짖고 나무라는 것처럼 여호와께서도 자기가 사랑하는 사람을 꾸짖고 나무라신다.”Just as a father scolds and scolds his children for the best, Jehovah also scolds and scolds those he loves
‭‭13 “지혜와 깨달음을 가진 자는 행복하다.”Those who have wisdom and enlightenment are happy
‭‭14 “그것이 은이나 금보다 더 가치 있고 유익하기 때문이다.”Because it is more valuable and beneficial than silver or gold
‭‭15 “지혜는 보석보다 더 귀한 것이므로 네가 갖고 싶어하는 그 어떤 것도 이것과 비교가 되지 않는다.”Wisdom is more precious than jewels and nothing you want can compare to it
‭‭16 “그 오른손에는 장수가 있고 그 왼손에는 부귀가 있으니”Longevity is in his right hand, and wealth and honor are in his left hand
‭‭17 “그 길은 즐거움과 평안의 길이다.”It is the path of joy and peace
‭‭18 “지혜는 그것을 얻은 자에게 생명 나무와도 같은 것이다. 그래서 지혜를 가진 자가 복이 있다.”Wisdom is like a tree of life to those who acquire it. So blessed are those who have wisdom
‭‭19 “여호와께서는 지혜로 땅의 기초를 놓으셨으며 예지로 우주 공간을 펼치셨고”By wisdom the LORD laid the foundations of the earth, and by foresight he spread out the universe;
‭‭20 “지식으로 깊은 물을 나누시고 공중에서 이슬이 내리게 하셨다.”He divided the deep waters with knowledge and made dew fall from the sky
‭‭21 “내 아들아, 건전한 지혜와 분별력을 잘 간직하고 그것이 네게서 떠나지 않게 하라.”My son, preserve sound wisdom and discernment, and do not let them depart from you
‭‭22 “그러면 그것이 네 영혼의 생명이 되고 네 삶을 아름답게 장식할 것이니”Then it will become the life of your soul and beautifully decorate your life
‭‭23 “네가 네 길을 안전하게 갈 수 있고 발이 걸려 넘어지는 일도 없을 것이며”You will go safely on your way and you will not stumble
‭‭24 “잠자리에 들 때 두려워하지 않고 단잠을 잘 수 있을 것이다.”You will be able to sleep well without fear when going to bed
‭‭25 “너는 갑자기 밀어닥친 재앙이나 악인들의 멸망이 이를 때 두려워하지 말아라.”Do not be afraid when a sudden disaster or the destruction of the wicked comes
‭‭26 “여호와는 네가 의지할 분이시니 너를 안전하게 지키실 것이다.”The LORD is your trust; he will keep you safe
‭‭27 “선을 베풀 능력이 있거든 그것을 필요로 하는 자에게 베풀기를 주저하지 말며”If you have the ability to do good, do not hesitate to do it to those who need it
‭‭28 “너에게 가진 것이 있으면 네 이웃에게 “갔다가 다시 오너라. 내일 주겠다” 라고 말하지 말아라.”If you have anything, say to your neighbor, “Go and come back.” Don’t say, “I’ll give it to you tomorrow.”
‭‭29 “너를 믿고 사는 네 이웃을 해하려고 계획하지 말며”Do not plan to harm your neighbor who trusts you
‭‭30 “남이 너를 해하지 않았거든 이유 없이 다투지 말아라.”Don't fight for no reason unless someone has harmed you
‭‭31 “난폭한 자를 부러워하지 말며 그의 어떤 행동도 본받지 말아라.”Do not envy a violent person and do not imitate any of his actions
‭‭32 “여호와께서는 악한 자를 미워하시고 정직한 자와 친근히 하신다.”Jehovah hates the wicked, but is friendly to the upright
‭‭33 “악인의 집에는 여호와의 저주가 있으나 의로운 자의 집에는 축복이 있다.”The curse of the Lord is on the house of the wicked, but the blessing is on the house of the righteous
‭‭34 “여호와는 거만한 자를 비웃으시고 겸손한 사람에게 은혜를 베푸신다.”Jehovah laughs at the proud but shows favor to the humble
‭‭35 “지혜로운 자는 영광을 얻을 것이나 미련한 자는 수치를 당할 것이다.”The wise will be honored, but the fools will be put to shame
