1 “내 아들들아, 너희 아버지가 가르치는 말을 잘 들어라. 유의해서 들으면 깨달 음을 얻을 것이다.”My sons, listen carefully to what your father teaches. If you listen carefully, you will gain enlightenment
‭‭2 “내가 너희에게 건전한 것을 가르친다. 너희는 나의 교훈을 저버리지 말아라.”I teach you sound things. Do not turn away from my teaching
‭‭3 “나도 한때는 외아들로서 부모의 사랑을 받던 어린 시절이 있었다.”There was a time when I was a child who was loved by my parents as an only child
‭‭4 “그때 나의 아버지는 이런 말씀으로 나를 교훈하셨다. “내가 하는 말을 기억하고 잊지 말아라. 내 명령을 지켜라. 그러면 네가 살 것이다.”At that time, my father taught me these words. “Remember what I say and don’t forget it. Observe my commands. then you will live
‭‭5 “지혜와 깨달음을 얻어라. 내 말을 잊어버리거나 무시하지 말아라.”Gain wisdom and enlightenment. Do not forget or ignore my words
‭‭6 “지혜를 버리지 말아라. 지혜가 너를 보호할 것이다. 지혜를 사랑하라. 지혜가 너를 지킬 것이다.”Do not abandon wisdom. Wisdom will protect you. Love wisdom. wisdom will protect you
‭‭7 “지혜는 가장 소중한 것이다. 지혜를 얻어라. 그 어떤 것을 희생하고서라도 깨달음을 얻어라.”Wisdom is the most precious thing. Get wisdom. Gain enlightenment even if you sacrifice anything
‭‭8 “지혜를 찬양하라. 지혜가 너를 높일 것이다. 지혜를 고이 간직하라. 지혜가 너를 영화롭게 할 것이다.”Praise wisdom. Wisdom will exalt you. Keep your wisdom in mind. wisdom will glorify you
‭‭9 “지혜가 우아한 화관을 네 머리에 씌우고 영광스러운 면류관을 너에게 줄 것이다.””Wisdom will place a graceful garland on your head and give you a glorious crown
‭‭10 “내 아들아, 내 말을 듣고 받아들여라. 그러면 네가 장수할 것이다.”My son, hear my words and accept them. then you will live long
‭‭11 “내가 너에게 지혜와 옳은 길을 가르쳤으니”I have taught you wisdom and the right way
‭‭12 “네가 걸어갈 때 네 걸음이 방해를 받지 않을 것이며 네가 달려갈 때에도 걸려 넘어지지 않을 것이다.”When you walk, your steps will not be hindered; when you run, you will not stumble
‭‭13 “내 교훈을 잊지 말고 굳게 지켜라. 이것은 너의 생명과도 같은 것이다.”Do not forget my teachings and hold fast to them. This is like your life
‭‭14 “너는 악인들이 가는 곳에 가지 말고 그들의 행동을 본받지 말아라.”Go not where the wicked go, and do not imitate their ways
‭‭15 “너는 악한 길을 피하고 그들의 길로 가지 말며 돌아서라.”Avoid the way of evil; do not go into their way; turn from them
‭‭16 “악인들은 나쁜 짓을 하지 않으면 직성이 풀리지 않으며 남을 해치지 않으면 잠이 오지 않는다.”Wicked people cannot lose their temper unless they do bad things, and they cannot sleep unless they harm others
‭‭17 “그들은 악의 빵을 먹고 폭력의 술을 마신다.”They eat the bread of evil and drink the wine of violence
‭‭18 “의로운 자의 길은 점점 밝아져서 완전히 빛나는 아침 햇빛 같으며”The path of the righteous grows brighter and brighter, like the bright sunlight of the morning
‭‭19 “악인의 길은 캄캄한 어두움과 같아서 그들이 넘어져도 무엇에 걸려 넘어졌는지조차 알지 못한다.”The path of the wicked is like pitch darkness; when they stumble, they do not even know what they have stumbled upon
‭‭20 “내 아들아, 내가 하는 말에 귀를 기울이고 주의 깊게 들어라.”My son, listen carefully and listen carefully to what I say
‭‭21 “그것을 네게서 떠나지 말게 하고 네 마음에 깊이 간직하라.”Do not let it depart from you; keep it deep in your heart

‭‭23 “그 무엇보다도 네 마음을 지켜라. 여기서부터 생명의 샘이 흘러나온다.”Guard your heart above all else. From here flows the fountain of life
‭‭24 “더럽고 추한 말을 버려라. 거짓되고 잘못된 말은 입 밖에도 내지 말아라.”Throw away dirty and ugly words. Do not say anything false or wrong
‭‭25 “너는 앞만 바라보고 시선을 다른 곳으로 돌리지 말며”Look straight ahead and do not look elsewhere
‭‭26 “네 걸음을 조심하고 무엇을 하든지 확실하게 하라.”Watch your step and be sure in whatever you do
‭‭27 “너는 곁길로 벗어나지 말고 네 발을 악에서 떠나게 하라.”Do not go astray, but keep your feet from evil
